Meet Jennifer Barrett

We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Barrett recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I’ve developed my confidence through my family. They’ve always been my biggest supporters, even my aunt and cousins discovering I had a voice, she always told me that my voice would make room for me. I started singing in my aunts church when it was in her house and she had me singing every Sunday and eventually I started singing all over.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an all entertainer. I don’t like to limit myself to one thing because God has blessed me with many talents, and as the years go by and I learn different talents and skills, it’s impossible to just put myself in one box. I started off doing different musicals around the local Houston area and singing background for different artist in Houston. I recently just finished two plays directed by Dr. Andra Taylor. One play was called Beauty Box which was in October and The Night Our Mother Killed us we finished in February. Right now I am changing gears and focusing on my new venture as a professional wrestler in training. I am training at Booker T’s professional school called Reality of Wrestling In Texas City. I am focusing on branding myself as professional wrestler and what that looks like for me so I am very excited and eager to learn something new.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey would be to be a team player, always being coachable, and being adaptable. Some advice I would have for folks early in their journey in terms on how they can develop or improve would be similar to my most impactful qualities which is to be quick to listen and always taking notes. The more you practice your craft, even the parts of the crafts where you feel like it’s not your strongest, get better at those things and let it blossom into your strength. And ALWAYS give yourself grace.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allow me to be myself and experiment on sports and hobbies I was interested in. They never put limits on me or gave opinions about the things that I loved and enjoyed as a kid. My dad was always a advocate for chasing your dreams no matter how big or small. Even when a vision or dream sound crazy or something my parents would encourage me to go for it and never leave with regrets.
