Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra Loaiza. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Alexandra with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Growing up has never been easy for me, from the time I was 12 or 13 years old I’ve had a job out of no choice. My mom was an accountant an my dad was a chief at a restaurant. Having 3 girls, I’m sure you can imagine the type of financial impact it would have on my parents. My mom later got sick with Breast Cancer and was later on unable to work and provide for the family. That’s where my journey began, from the beginning of my life I was put in survival mode at such a young age. On top of that I was also first generation in my family. My mom is from the Philippines and my dad is from Colombia. From a young age I had to find my own path, going to school and working at the same time was normal for me. I had so many different kinds of jobs from working as a field trip guide at a butterfly museum to working at Johnny rockets as a server. Growing up I’ve always seen my parents work so hard especially my dad who had to pick up the finances once my mother got sick. Seeing him go into work everyday really motivated me to find a job that I would love to do everyday. If I was going to work for the rest of my life, I wanted to be happy doing it.
Here I am at the age 29 the sunshine after the storm. I found my love for Photography and Videography. I am now a Buisness owner. Then later down the line I found my second career also as a Manager of a Pilates studio. Now a days you need multiple sources of income to survive. Fortunately I found both of mine. The way I grew up as well as the past jobs that I’ve had has molded my work either to what it is today!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Right now, I manage a Club Pilates Studio in West Caldwell very community based and a career that had chosen me. I also am a Buisness owner for Photography and Videography. My company is called From My Eye To Yours Production. I have been able to successfully balance both of my careers. You don’t just have to stick with one thing.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
– Trust Issues
– Uncomfortablility
-Motivation
Believe it or not these are the 3 qualities that truly had made me better at work.
– Trust issues – Don’t trust anyone at work in a sense always cover yourself and your work. Nothing is safe with discussing to your other coworkers, that would lead to issues in the future. Trust no one will help keep you in check at all times.
-Uncomfortablility – never feel to comfortable working, you have a reason why you are there. Never forget your reason WHY.
– Motivation – The want to be better and do better in life will help drive you on those days where you are tired and want to make an excuse. Keep pushing and striving towards your goal.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
When I became manager of my Studio here in Club Pilates West Caldwell. I was promoted in November and It truly taught me a lot about people but most importantly myself. It has not been an easy road and being in charge if people plus balancing keeping our members happy has challenged me to become better with my communication skills as well as being able to build relationships with people. I came from an abusive last relationship and it has been hard for me to see the good in people. However, this job has helped heal me and most importantly shape me into becoming a better person internally which only made me better at work. Work has help my growth in life.
