Meet Brittane Smith

We recently connected with Brittane Smith and have shared our conversation below.

Brittane , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

I feel like my generosity comes from my big heart. If I have it, I tried to be sure to give back in some type of way. Growing up, I was blessed and very fortunate, but I am well aware that not everyone gets that privilege in life. I am by no means very well off or close to being a millionaire, but when I speak of blessing and fortune, as well as generosity, all those things go beyond money. Even if it’s just a smile, or a small conversation, you never know how those small gestures can move the next person. I also have my parents to thank, as they are of the most unselfish people that I know!! Seeing them and how they act most definitely had a positive impact on how I act now, and I hope to pass those same generous traits on to my two children.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a licensed, Self taught nail technician With a huge passion for nails! I have always been into nails on the other end of the table, always getting my nails and toes done. A lot of people From middle school on up to college know me as “Brittane with the nails”. During Covid, my nail technician was unable to perform services, so I took it upon myself to get a few supplies and try to do my nails myself. It was a mess, I had fun doing it, and I could see the vision — I could see myself making something of doing nails. By August 2020, I was gifted a beginner nail kit, and my journey begin then. I watched YouTube videos and practiced every chance I got, and eventually a few people let me practice on them while I myself, I put myself through school and graduated July 2021. The very next month, I began my journey working as an independent nail technician in a salon. I have been super blessed with a growing and very steady clientele And I am still loving every second of doing nails. My next venture is finishing up my hours to be a licensed nail instructor, and hopefully I will have that completed by the end of this year!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities or skills that I feel impacted my journey were self motivation, desire, and humbleness. When it comes to working for yourself, or making money doing something that you love, it is easy to get off track. Being self motivated is helpful on those days where you just want to cancel all of your clients you know that doing so could cost you those clients and you also know that you will not get paid when you cancel those clients. Having that self motivation Will kick in and remind you while you’re doing what you do. Desire is always an extra bonus when doing anything. When you have a desire and a passion, it will show through your work. Lastly, it is important to remain humble during your entire journey. Some weeks you have high traffic, some weeks you may have only one or two clients. So it is important to remain humble and know that each person that graces your space is a blessing.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I try to take some time off and just take a step back to reflect and remember why I’m in this. It is easy to lose yourself in your business, especially when it is something you love and enjoy doing. It is very important, however, to remember that you cannot pour from an empty cup. Make sure to always put yourself first, that way you can be the best provider for your clientele! Also, remaining organized and having a good routine will also make things run smoothly, and will reduce that overwhelming feeling.
