Meet Moxey

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Moxey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Moxey, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My journey to discovering my purpose is a nothing but a testament to of resilience, faith and passion. I’ve faced challenges challenges from a young age even to present day. I was bullied in school, called names- even by my teachers which made it difficult for me to stay or even want to stay committed to completing my education. Thankfully in the midst of these struggles, I found space and strength within my ministry of attendance. One beautiful service, I surrendered my life to Christ and my once beaten path of life now was guided by faith.

I’ve always had a passion for music although I didn’t realize it first. At a point in my life, my mother brought me a piano and instantly I was drawn to it and began to play daily. Within four months, I was a self taught pianist. With undeniable talent, doors began to open for me to minister within church service, growing my hidden passion within. Unbeknownst to me at the time of was begin the path of my purpose. With music being a part of the arts, it was easy to also be drawm into acting. Originally from the Bahamas, I moved to Florida and landed my first role- as lead!
With everything I’ve gone through, I’ve come to the foundation of my purpose- which is to exhibit my gifts through the means of arts. These gifts are now nurtured by faith. My journey is a powerful reminder that even in the face of adversity, the right path can emerge when you surrender to something greater than yourself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a musician that plays the keyboard for my church; Global Impact church located in Orlando Florida. I genuinely enjoy playing while the sweet sounds and harmony of the voices of the people saturate the building. I am humbled to use my gifts and talents to glorify God, doing this has opened up many doors and blessings in my life.

My main focus is my career goal of being a known actor, I took classes for acting at Book From Tape Acting school. There are so many fun aspects to being an actor, transforming your appearance, changing personalities for different characters and connecting with the audience through performance. Acting is my passion/calling, being apart of so many stories is an amazing experience.

Growing up watching movies as a child, Tyler Perry was my inspiration his plots always had a meaning and a learning experience in each story. These facts have motivated me to be a story teller; a great actor that can bring joy and laughter to the audience. I’ve recently finished a short film call N/A that is expected to be streaming in multiple Florida film festivals. Currently, I’m in the process of doing another short action film called inevitable. I’m more than just a storyteller I’m an enlightener of the human condition, I bring ideas and stories to life through my actions.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

There are three pivotal qualities that have profoundly influenced my journey. The foremost is respect; I have learned to extend respect to others, even in instances when that respect is not reciprocated. This practice has not only cultivated my character but has also facilitated the pursuit of my goals in life. By demonstrating respect, I have encountered countless individuals willing to assist me on my path to success.

The second quality is humility, a virtue I have come to respect deeply. Humility has rendered me trustworthy and reliable, opening an incredible number of doors throughout my life. I experienced this transformation in my late teens. Had I understood from a young age that respect and humility could lead to a more honest and trustworthy existence, I would have embraced these qualities sooner, thereby avoiding many significant mistakes. Nonetheless, God has been my guiding force throughout, with His spirit sustaining me and helping me evolve into the person I am today.

The third quality is my ability to learn rapidly, which is intimately tied to my commitment to my pursuits. I mastered the piano in just four months, dedicating five hours each day to practice, fueled by my passion for music. I firmly believe that anything one sets their mind to can be achieved with unwavering commitment and determination.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Being overwhelmed is not a feeling anyone enjoys. There are people who are great at dealing through their life struggles better than most. In my own experience, when I begin to feel overwhelmed, it is like a weight on my physical and mental being. It becomes a strain to do basic everyday procedures such as walking, talking, and thinking clearly. I believe the key to overcoming that feeling is to be able to perceive when it is happening. Once I am aware of the feeling, I set everything aside and focus on activities that uplift me. I engage myself in watching movies either at home, preferably in the theater. I disconnect from electronics to avoid distractions and fully immerse myself in the experience. Alternatively, I could find a serene, beautiful spot near a waterfall, sit down and take in the tranquility of nature. During these times, I often communicate with God, as I genuinely believe that focusing my mind on Him brings me perfect peace. Ultimately, I emerge feeling uplifted, relaxed, and calm once again.
