Meet John Loreaux

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to John Loreaux. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

John, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I think everyone needs to find purpose in life. I started working with My Father at a very young age and found purpose being a carpenter. I worked alongside of My Dad for 30 years helping people improve their homes and seeing the joy they would have when the project was complete. I have always loved being creative. I started taking photos when i was about 17 years old. I fell in love with photography and have had a camera in my hands ever since. Photography has given me a purpose of making people happy with my photographs. A nice landscape a sunset or a photograph of a band or musician. For the past 20 years i have really enjoyed music photography and have had the opportunity to photograph hundreds of bands and musicians. I found purpose in helping local bands and musicians by sharing my photos with them. Many being able to promote their bands and music using my photographs. I think the bottom line is that in helping others you are able to fulfill your own purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I retired from carpentry in 2020. I enjoyed being retired which gave me the opportunity to pursue live music and music photography. I just love combining two of my favorite arts. I always have a camera at every show i attend. In 2024 i had the opportunity to attend and photograph well over 100 different bands and musicians. I also volunteer my photography several times throughout the year. I am the volunteer at the Somers Point Beach Concert Series in my hometown of Somers Point N.J.. I have been volunteering there for about 15 years. We have 14 concerts during the summer every Friday night from 7- 10 pm. Recently I have become involved with my good friend Jerry Ryan who is getting ready to launch the 16th annual Elephant Talk Indie Music Festival that helps supports and bring awareness to those with Autism. This will be my third year helping out at this 3 day event that will feature over 60 bands! This will take place at The Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall in Atlantic City April 11-13! I look forward to this great weekend of music, photography, camaraderie and helping a great cause!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three things that come to mind when i look back on my journey and what was most important to me are.. 1. Have a good work ethic. Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability 2. Set goals for yourself and pursue the things you love about life 3. Be consistent and do what you say you’re going to do. Be upfront and honest.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I would spend the decade continuing to pursue the people and creative outlets I love. Being in construction for many years and also being a photographer has afforded me many opportunities to meet some amazing people. I have made many friendships over the years. It is these relationships I have made that have given me the avenues to continue my creative pursuits.
