Meet Elicia Moore-Hill

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elicia Moore-Hill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Elicia, we sincerely appreciate you joining us today and agreeing to talk about some very personal topics. So, to kick things off, let’s talk about a tough one – divorce. Can you talk to us about how you overcame divorce?

Marriage was supposed to be a partnership, a bond built on love and commitment. But I soon realized my now ex-husband was only in love with the idea of marriage—not with me. I was faced with a choice that would alter the course of my life forever: stay where I was tolerated but never truly accepted, or step into the unknown, embracing the discomfort of choosing myself every single day.

I chose me.

It was the hardest, loneliest journey I had ever faced. For the first time, I had to stand alone, confronting every fear, every doubt, every piece of myself I had ignored for too long. In the process, I turned my back on God—only to come running back to Him, desperate for the strength to rebuild what felt shattered beyond repair.

In the midst of it all, I found solace in the most unexpected places. Acting became my sanctuary, a space where I could pour my pain into characters who, like me, were fighting to make sense of their worlds. Some of my most powerful performances were born from heartbreak, each role a reflection of my own battle to heal. And then there was kickball—a simple game that became a symbol of my resilience, a reminder that I was still capable of joy, of movement, of play.

Through it all, I learned how to be okay with myself—even on the hard days. My walls were covered in sticky notes, filled with affirmations, Bible verses, and words that breathed life back into me. I created vision boards, not to dwell on where I had been, but to remind myself of where I was going.

I don’t just say I “overcame” divorce—because healing isn’t about erasing the past. Instead, I learned that broken crayons still color beautifully. And so do I.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

For the past 25 years, I have proudly served in the military, building a career in logistics that fuels my strategic mindset. But beyond my dedication to service, my true passion lies in empowering others and embracing my creativity.

I’m currently pursuing my Doctorate in Business Administration, set to matriculate in 2026. My journey as the only Black female Warrant Officer in most of my units has taught me resilience, strength, and how to rise above ignorance while forging my own path.

Outside the military, I bring stories to life as an actress with some incredible projects under my belt! I star as Dr. Diane James in Secrets in Plain Sight, a gripping TV series on Tubi, where three women harbor dangerous secrets—only to realize they’re not the only ones keeping them. Meanwhile, the murder of Diane’s best friend looms in the background, unraveling a deeper mystery.

On Amazon Prime, you’ll find me in Complicated Atlanta as Clarissa—a powerhouse boss who dominates in business and beyond. But when someone sets out to take everything she has built, things get messy… and that’s just the beginning!

Beyond the screen, I express myself through poetry. My book, Elicia Moore La Única—which translates to I Am the Only One—is available on Barnes & Noble and Amazon Prime.

Every role I play, every word I write, and every challenge I face fuels my purpose: to inspire, create, and break barriers. And this is only the beginning!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities that have defined my journey—persistence, resilience, and adaptability—were not just words; they were survival skills. This path is neither easy nor quick, but if you are truly passionate about it, every challenge, every rejection, and every triumph will be worth it. So buckle up and enjoy the ride.

My advice? Shift your mindset. Acting is not just an opportunity to perform—it’s an opportunity to showcase your talent. Queen Mother in Black Panther said it best: “Show them who YOU are!” Step into every role, every audition, every scene with the unwavering belief that you belong there.

And above all, invest in your craft. Too many aspiring actors dream of the spotlight but won’t take the time to sharpen their skills. As a method actor, I can instantly tell who has trained and who hasn’t. The right coach will not only refine your technique but also offer something even greater—an opportunity to heal. Acting is not just about pretending to be someone else; it’s about understanding yourself in a way that transforms both your art and your life.

This journey demands everything from you—but if you give it your all, it will give you something priceless in return.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Balancing life as a student, a service member, a wife, a mother, and an actress is nothing short of overwhelming. The weight of responsibilities can feel suffocating, but I’ve learned one crucial lesson: you have to create space to breathe—literally and figuratively.

My biggest piece of advice? Go outside. Step away from the chaos. Walk, run, bike a trail—feel the fresh air fill your lungs with purpose. Engage your senses. Let the wind remind you that you are still here, still standing, still capable.

For me, writing became my refuge. Poetry wasn’t just an art form—it was a survival mechanism, a way to release the thoughts that threatened to drown me. When life closes in, you must carve out a space of your own, a sanctuary away from the noise.

Because here’s the truth: if you don’t give your thoughts a place to go, they will consume you. So let them breathe, let them flow, and watch as clarity takes the place of chaos.
