We recently connected with Jaimie Rosenthal and have shared our conversation below.
Jaimie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
When you look around, creativity can spark at any given moment. Looking at things in a new perspective is an opportunity to see angles in which you wouldn’t before. Remembering that, it helps spark new ideas I wouldn’t have noticed. Whenever I hit a block, or am just having a rough time with imagining my next steps and need something to do that will invigorate that creative spark- something as simple as going for a walk or visiting my favorite coffee spot can kickstart a new bit of inspiration.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an author! There’s always been something special to me about bringing a vision to life through any art form. Creating a world to share, making stories that inspire others has always been a big goal of mine. When I published my first book, I was so excited to share my ideas with the world and bring something new to life. Writing fantasy and sci-fi has been such a fun adventure, bringing unique things out into the world.
I recently published my 5th book, and first series! “Shards of Bounty” is a fantasy novel and first in a series of (up to) three books. The story is about a young man named Koda who wakes up in the woods with no memory of his past life. When he receives a legendary weapon as a gift from someone from his past, memories begin to reawaken. Discovering more of who he used to be, Koda is forced to embrace his dark past and fight to protect the new life he’s built.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Advice for folks early in their writing/arts career: JUST GET YOUR IDEA ON PAPER! Once it exists in the world, then you can adjust as needed! Whether you believe it or not, someone is going to be so excited to see what you bring to the table. Until you put your work out, you don’t know the opportunity that could await you. No matter how you decide to bring your vision to life — writing, drawing, music, sewing — you name it! Putting it out into the world is the first step. It may seem intimidating at first, but you won’t know what you could miss until you do push through.
Three qualities that I believe every creative person must have would be a strong DRIVE to do/create, COURAGE to show your talents to the world, and CURIOSITY to want to learn and see new things. Taking in the world around you is just as much of the creative process as making new pieces of it exist.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I wouldn’t be here without the network I’ve built over the last few years. No matter what you choose to do, a network of supportive peers (including family) are what will carry you through struggles you face. I’m fortunate to have met and befriend people who have gone above and beyond in supporting me, regardless what avenue or venture I’ve embarked upon. Even those who are no longer actively in my life, have taught me valuable lessons I carry to this day.
