Meet Tiara Scarlett

We recently connected with Tiara Scarlett and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tiara with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic came from needing to be better than before my divorce. Not to show off to anyone, but to make all that had happened a purposeful part of my journey. To be married to someone in the military, you have to be prepared to quit your life in your area and move where ever your spouse is stationed. Two weeks into the move my character was attacked. This person who preached to me that I could fully depend on him, told me he only now was willing to be there as a friend because he didn’t want to “HAVE to be there for me” but instead wanted to only be there when he “WANTS to be there”. I realized that I settled for someone unworthy when I had untapped potential. I didn’t need to marry a small man to be stable. I needed to become more of myself and become a rich man myself. So without work, without my own home, and without a family,…I felt the most without. However, sometimes you need to have nothing to have NOTHING holding you back.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

You know the best part and the worst part about this journey is the unknown! I love meeting new people and not knowing where it will lead. But its also scary, because its not the familiar biweekly pay. I model, act, and dance mostly. Modeling has been a beautiful journey for me but many people expect models to do TFPs or collaborations. I have even been told to pay to be apart of shows and shoots. I don’t partake in those… Once I joined my agencies, I began getting work. My biggest job was with Hand and Stone USA through NYMMG. Modeling was easier for me than most because of my dance training (movement and angles) and I was very good about taking notes of other successful models around me. I’ve also been blessed with dance and acting opprotunities such as the 78th Annual Novant Health Parade in Charlotte and as an actress in a PSA for Poder NC Action shortly after my move. I did not expect to get into acting or dancing professionally because I wasn’t what I considered the “standard”. I was clearly wrong about my expectations. But it has been so nice meeting people and being in front of cameras to later be broadcasted. I wanted more opprotunities to work with lines and to dance on camera. So I started acting classes and got into different dance programs such as LDC and Amor Dance Crew. Life has this way of showing you your talents. The hardest part about it is the patience it takes. I expect quick improvement and I do get quickly frustrated when I don’t see my own growth. I expect to get the bookings every month even though I just got started. That is not at all how life, as a recently signed talent, would ever go and I have only been signed to my agencies since May of 2024. The 2nd hardest part is pushing past the negative thoughts that tell you to go back to the familiar. I miss stable pay so much, but I don’t miss the feeling of not knowing if I went for my aspirations in life or if I reached my fullest potential. I knew life had more to offer and now I am seeing what those offers are.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Bring joy, peace, and encouragement to all who are working around you. Bulldozing people out of ambition will not get you anywhere. What is for you will be for you.

2. Be broke now, to be rich later. Sounds weird…and be smart about it…but I can concur that the best way to become more successful is to in fact invest in yourself. Pay for the headshots, pay for the dance training, pay for the classes, and invest the time to better yourself outside those classes too! I had to pay for my portfolio shoot. It hurt! But then I get 3x what I invested and that is the lesson. Scary but true.

3. Someone said to me, “Who would you become if you could NOT be denied?” Me personally I would be the shortest Tyra Banks, walking with all the top designers, being paid to do all the shoots, being a tv personality, being in music videos, and being in tv shows,…You get it. I was rock bottom and recently seperated without any job. That was when I understood that I had been denying myself opprotunities because I was afraid of instability and being denied. We change peoples minds about the lanes we are supposed to stay in by becoming our best selves and we make new paths for others to be successful in too.

Those three things will get you far, but for anyone starting out. Be ok with the collaborations and the connections, but be really good about noting those who are good to collaborate with for your look. Not everyone is. Take note of the resources of others without copying their every move. I learned where to go to find agencies that were for me, I noted certain models had a LOOK, and I looked at successful Instagrams to see what was trending. Basically, pay attention and stay informed.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

Self judgement and ridicule. I look in the mirror and something needs to be fixed or I need to hit the gym. I struggle because of life and I am a bum that needs support. I want financial stabilty so I do not purchase anything even though I need it to be successful. It gets in the way of my dancing, modeling, and it almost got in the way of my acting. I am lucky to have family that sees how successful I have been and wants to be there to help me along the way. So the challenge remains within life (like these internet scams thst have gotten out of control) and having the mental strength to do what you got to do no matter what. Its also ok to lean on your loved ones and give back as well.
