Meet Wesley Pulphus

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wesley Pulphus. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wesley below.

Hi Wesley , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

One way that I develop confidence and self-esteem is through regular exercise. Particularly strength training and stretching. Weight lifting/resistant exercises are well documented as a great confidence builder. When you are stronger, it has a positive effect on your self -esteem.

Stretching increases your blood flow which helps you become more flexible, alleviates pain, helps you avoid injuries and feel better. Which in turn encourages you to do more!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

While living in Atlanta, Ga in 1995, I took a home study course to get certified as a Personal Trainer through International Sports Science Association (ISSA).
Once I was certified,

I convinced three nurse’s aids, one RN, and a doctor to allow me to come to their homes to train them 3 times a week at $10 per session.

The rest is history! Mobile fitness Professionals was born in 1996 and I received endless referrals until I move to Chicago in 2008.

There are 3 main focuses that separates MFP from its competition which caused this company to flourish and thrive in Atlanta:

A.) I was at my client’s door step with a very simple plan to help them get started

B.) My approach focused on changing the client mindset toward working out and making their health #1

C.) I build their foundation by starting on the cellular level of their bodies which help them reach their goals faster.

I’ve always been very interested in health and fitness even at an early age.

I was the one telling everyone to not smoke, workout, and eat right.

After graduating from Eastridge in Kankakee ILL (1980), I received a partial track scholarship to Southwestern Michigan College.

I participated in cross country & track for one year then left the team to focus on my studies which help me to graduate in 1984 with a major in psychology.

That same year, I moved to Syracuse, NY, worked at a psychiatric hospital as a Mental Health Associate, and later joined the Air National Guard in 1985.
In 1988,

I relocated to Atlanta, Ga and continued to work at a psychiatric hospital (West Paces Medical Center). I noticed that all my friends had either a part-time or full time business.

I started wondering what I could do. I researched different businesses and decided to become a Professional Bodybuilder.

I began buying magazines to learn about bodybuilding and stumbled across an Ad about the business of Personal Training.

I then realized that the business of Personal Training was me in a nutshell.
I could continue to help people, which I love, do 1 on 1 coaching, and work for myself.

This was exciting because I knew that my background in mental health would be one of my advantages over most trainers.

Chicago Style Stepping (Ballroom Dancing) is something I always wanted to learn and I thought it would be a way to offer more variety and fun to my training.

I visit Chicago for 3 month in 2005, took stepping lessons, got ordained to teach by my instructors, went back to Atlanta and started immediately teaching my clients this dance as a form of exercising.

In 2011 the Chicago Department of Public Health created a new public health agenda called “Healthy Chicago “.

In 2016 , MFP is launching a new online fitness coaching service that will close a gap and will help Healthy Chicago reach one of its key priorities which is obesity prevention because our digital products can reach masses of Chicagoan with ease.

Together we will make Chicago the healthiest city in the nation.  Mobile Fitness Professionals is a one stop health & wellness shop!

All our products or services are design to help our valued clients make fitness their #1 priority.

Our goal is to make fitness Safe, Simple, & Convenient.

MFP solves 3 important needs of our clients

1)Get them started,
2) Give them tools to stay consistent
3)Help them get in the best shape of their life.

We accomplish this by offering products and services like: In-Home training, Private Studio Training, On-line Fitness Coaching, Wesley’s Fitness Club (Fitness Membership Site), and Digital Fitness Products (eBooks, Email Course, Video Course, Webinars, Audio Course) etc…

A training package may include: Fitness Assessment, Program Design, Nutritional Design/Consultation, Aerobic Conditioning, Flexibility Training, Martial Arts Fitness, Balance/Stability Training, Chicago Style Stepping, Email Service, Private Face book Group, or Office Hours (Skype)

The company focuses on three distinct customers-Baby boomers (50-68), Career Women (40-70), Chicago Style Steppers (30-60). Baby boomers are being encouraged to work out to live longer and combat the ill effects of aging.

Career Women want to keep a competitive edge by staying in top shape and there are some competitive Chicago Style Steppers that would benefit greatly from training that focuses on exercises that condition muscles for dancing.

My customers continue to use my services because we build a trusting relationship.

Wesley Pulphus is the founder/ owner of Mobile Fitness Professionals and is currently the sole operator. Mobile Fitness Professionals’ base location is in Woodlawn, Chicago

MFP is expanding and will concentrate most of the marketing on On-line Fitness Coaching. The strategy for my entire product & services is to attend more business network events. I will continue to deliver value to my current customers in exchange for referrals. Finally I will use social networking and a variety of free & paid advertisement online to promote my business.

Within the next few years, Mobile Fitness Professionals will launch an On-Line Fitness Coaching service to expand locally & globally. We will create more digital products and focus on getting the customers started, keep them going, and helping get in the best shape of their life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking Back, having a positive mindset and confidence was very impactful during my journey.Over the years, I’ve developed great people skills having a background in mental health.

I learn to be compassionate and empathetic. I learned the importance of meeting people where they are.

The best advice I can get someone in their journey is keep it simple . Whatever you’re doing what would it look like if it was simple?

How would you describe your ideal client?

First and foremost, my ideal client is over 50 years old and still wants to live. Unfortunately, everybody does not want to live . So they sometimes consciously and subconsciously sabotage their health.

With that being said, my ideal client makes their health number one.
They will do that by keeping Fitness simple. What I mean is , they will simply stretch regularly, deep breath regularly , walk regularly, and practice mindful eating.

They will innerstand that this is a lifestyle and I’m only here to help them temporarily.
