We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tobi Ogedegbe,ARM® a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tobi, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from the example set by my parents. Growing up, I witnessed them consistently extend kindness, support, and care to others—especially to those who were going through difficult times or weren’t in the position they wished to be. They never hesitated to offer a helping hand, whether it was through financial support, encouragement, or simply being present when someone needed uplifting. Their actions taught me that generosity isn’t just about giving; it’s about being available, being compassionate, and recognizing that we all need each other at different points in life.

I truly believe we’re all meant to be of service to one another. Life has its ups and downs for everyone, and sometimes all a person needs is someone to believe in them or to show up when it matters most. My parents modeled that kind of selfless love and service, and that spirit has stayed with me ever since.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Professionally, I serve as a Managing Partner in a Private Equity Real Estate firm, overseeing a portfolio with $200 million in assets under management. My work centers on helping individuals and families protect, preserve, and grow their equity through strategic investments and long-term planning. Locally, I also advise estates on navigating probate and trust real estate, giving me a deep understanding of both the macro-level trends and the micro-level nuances of the real estate landscape.I’m passionate about financial empowerment and believe that with the right guidance and tools, people can build lasting generational wealth and security.

Beyond my work in real estate, I’m honored to serve on the boards of three impactful nonprofit organizations: BUILD.org, Reading Partners, and YPOSF. These organizations are doing transformative work—whether it’s fostering youth entrepreneurship, increasing literacy, or creating opportunities for underrepresented communities. Being able to contribute to these missions reminds me every day that real success is rooted in service.

What truly excites me is the intersection of impact and investment—using my professional skills to uplift others, while also directly giving back to the community. I believe the key to it all is being of service at the highest level, in both business and life—sharing knowledge, showing up for others, and staying committed to something bigger than myself.
’m especially honored to be recognized as Volunteer of the Year and to be speaking at the upcoming Literacy is Liberation Gala at Oracle Park. This moment means so much to me because it reflects the power of collective action and the importance of raising awareness—and funds—for a cause that’s very dear to my heart. Literacy changes lives, and I’m proud to support that mission in every way I can.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue deepening my impact—both professionally and philanthropically—and building bridges between wealth-building and community-building. There’s so much power in doing well and doing good, and I’m committed to showing up for both with purpose and heart.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful elements in my journey have been: service-minded leadership, financial literacy, and adaptability.

Service-Minded Leadership
This has been the foundation of everything I do. Whether I’m advising clients on real estate strategy or serving on nonprofit boards, I lead with the mindset that we are all here to be of service to others. That perspective grounds me, keeps me focused on impact, and builds trust in every relationship.
Advice: Develop a habit of asking, “How can I add value here?” When you focus on serving others—whether it’s a client, a team, or a community—opportunities, growth, and success naturally follow.

Financial Literacy
Understanding how money works—especially in the context of real estate—has empowered me to help others grow and preserve wealth strategically. From managing a $200M real estate portfolio to advising on probate and trust property matters, this knowledge has been a key driver of my impact.
Advice: Don’t wait to start learning. Read, take courses, find mentors, and ask questions. The earlier you build your financial foundation, the more confident and capable you’ll feel in navigating both personal and professional decisions.

Adaptability
Real estate and community work both require the ability to adjust to change—fast. Markets shift, laws evolve, and people’s needs change. Being adaptable has allowed me to stay ahead of trends while staying grounded in my values.
Advice: Stay curious and open. The more you can embrace change and learn from it, the more resilient and innovative you’ll become. Growth rarely happens in comfort zones.

No matter where you’re starting from, the combination of being service-driven, financially informed, and adaptable can take you far. Invest in yourself, stay consistent, and always remember: success is most meaningful when it uplifts others along the way.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One of the most transformative books in my journey has been Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It’s more than a book about wealth—it’s a blueprint for mindset, purpose, and perseverance. One concept that deeply resonated with me is the power of having a Definite Major Purpose—a clear, unwavering vision of what you want to achieve and who you want to become.

For me, that purpose has always centered around two things: empowering people through real estate and giving back to my community in meaningful ways. Whether managing a $200M real estate portfolio or serving on the boards of BUILD.org, Reading Partners, and YPOSF, my purpose drives every decision I make. It keeps me focused during uncertain times and helps align my energy with opportunities that reflect my values.

Other key lessons from the book that have stuck with me:

Faith and belief are powerful tools: Hill emphasizes the importance of belief in yourself and your vision. That inner conviction has helped me take bold steps in business and in service, even when the path wasn’t clear.

Persistence is non-negotiable: Challenges are inevitable, but Hill teaches that persistence is the bridge between desire and success. I’ve learned to view setbacks as stepping stones, not stop signs.

The power of a Mastermind: Surrounding yourself with people who challenge, support, and inspire you is critical. My network of mentors, colleagues, and fellow board members have all played pivotal roles in my growth.

Ultimately, Think and Grow Rich reinforced the idea that success isn’t accidental—it’s intentional. And when you move through life with purpose, service, and a relentless belief in what’s possible, you create a life that’s both fulfilling and impactful.
