We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyler Goldstein a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tyler with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my desire for success. I have always been a competitive person and learned over time that working towards a goal, setting your mind, and not accepting failure as an option will bring you exactly where you want to be. It will test your patience, but results come to those who put in the time.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a professional musician. I play hundreds of gigs every year, do session work, and teach music with the aim to inspire the next generation of players. My primary focus is guitar and vocals, but I also play bass, drums, and a some keys here and there. In addition to my live performances, I write and produce original music both under my own name and with the production duo, “Cliquebate”.
What makes this career special to me is that it’s my passion and there’s really nothing else I’d rather be doing. While there are certainly challenges along the way, I feel at home when I’m around music. I love the energy of collaborating with other musicians and the raw creativity that comes from those connections. Traveling the world, meeting new people, and connecting with like-minded folks who share the same drive are experiences that I deeply value.
In spring 2025, Cliquebate will be releasing our next single, “Shy Guy”. It’s a track we’re really excited about and I’m looking forward to seeing how it resonates with listeners.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three of the most important qualities that had a great impact on my journey thus far are the 3 P’s: Practice, Persistence and Patience. The practice humbles me and is a constant factor in my progress as a musician and as a human. Persistence is key in maintaining work, but also reinforces never giving up on anything. It’s a keep going until you reach your goal mindset. Finally, the toughest one: patience. This is necessary for being able to see your practice and persistence pay off.
My advice for people early on in their journey is to make sure you have a deep passion and enjoyment for what you are doing. There are always going to be times where it’s not fun but keeping the joy alive will make these qualities second nature.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents always allowed for me to find and explore my own passions and supported me in the process. This was crucial because I never once felt like I was doing things for someone else. It was always for me and because it’s what I loved to do. Supporting the dreams of your children is super important. For my instance, music isn’t the most lucrative or easy career, but my parents never knocked it and just made sure I knew I would have to work hard to make it happen.
