Meet Nicole Teitler

We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Teitler recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I developed my confidence and self-esteem through movement. From a very early age, I would dance or play sports as an outlet for my hyperactivity and insecurities. The more I moved the less time I spent in my head. And the better I became at each physical activity the more my confidence grew.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the founder of EMPOWERED MOVEMENT®, a community built for women to discover their strength. It began as a single event in The Hamptons in 2022 and has grown into five events across New York and New Jersey. Events are centered around a workout, panel discussion, and socializing. I’m excited to announce that it will soon include a podcast and community resources for women everywhere.

The goal is to give women a platform to connect with others and have their stories told. I want women to break down the barriers between each other and instead empower one another, and, I believe, physical movement and conversation can make that happen.

The EM community is uniquely built on four pillars of strength (rather than just the mind-body connection)—physical, mental, emotional, and financial. Physical movement contributes to mental strength by helping us overcome obstacles and push through discomfort. Mental strength builds emotional resilience as we bounce back quicker each time we overcome adversity; Emotional resilience creates financial stability by allowing us to manage our emotions and make better financial decisions. These pillars are interconnected, and the pathway to success. That journey is what excites me most!

Also, the next event will be on Saturday, June 14 in Hoboken. So, keep an eye out for those details!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

A quality that has directly impacted my journey is a competitive spirit. I’ve always been competitive, not against people but myself, specifically in sports and fitness. Growing up, that competitive nature landed me on an all-boys baseball league and golf team. When I was old enough to go to the gym I’d observe others and copy their movements. Then, I’d try new techniques on my own. I constantly strived to be better than I was the day before, and that hasn’t changed.

Since I always strived to do better, I developed interviewing skills. People, like books, are filled with knowledge and unique journeys. And they always want to share their knowledge! You think they don’t, but they do. So, I always ask questions and get to know people–from friends to perfect strangers.

The final thing is resilience. I’ve crawled back from some very dark times, and they’ve made me who I am. Only in the depths of despair can we ever learn what we’re truly capable of. And I’m capable of a lot.

My advice on developing these qualities/skills is: don’t be afraid to look foolish. Being competitive can seem egocentric, asking questions can be intimidating, and resilience is built on failure. Don’t be afraid of the process.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! I’m always looking to partner and collaborate with like-minded women interested in making a difference.

For EMPOWERED MOVEMENT® events anyone who owns a fitness/wellness space, is in the healthcare field (physical or mental health), or is a finance professional should contact me about hosting an event or lending their voice to a panel.

On a broader scale, the EMPOWERED MOVEMENT® podcast will launch soon. It will focus on women’s journeys and expert advice. I’m looking for women who want to share their stories. Big or small.

Lastly, I welcome wellness or fitness brands who want to get involved. It doesn’t have to be women-owned, as long as they want to be part of the movement where women discover their strength.
