We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Randi Hollingshead a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Randi, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I believe risk falls under the ‘ignorance is bliss’ category. Though it can be a lighter shoulder to carry, not knowing; because one feels they may get hurt. I believe it is far more favorable to know. We cannot combat the demons of life without running headfirst, sword in hand, and a fire in our hearts. Personally, I have been faced with quite a diversity in the land of risk. Choosing where to live when my parents divorced, though may seem easy for a child. It is a challenging decision, as everyone’s hearts are clinging to your sleeves. I’ve been trapped in a relationship that was abusive on every level you can fathom. I stayed because the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t. I was pushed out that situation through divine intervention and adorned my armor to face the rest of my life. Risk, can save your life, can save you grief. strife, and as the list can stretch into an eternity, I will digress. There are many facets of risk I have encountered as my life progressed, But I will always choose risk over the darkness of an empty mind any day.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a riddle, wrapped in an enigma inside of a shell. That is the best way I know to paint a picture. I run CellarDoor Spiritual, outside of my day job and home/ life duties. Within CDS I have helped people connect with friends and family that have passed away. I speak to my own, in fact. This all came about more as my father passed away. It’s been a huge factor in my grieving and growing process as he and I were very close. CDS would not exist without that pain, my husband; Bryan who has supported and encouraged me through this journey that he walks with me. I’ve blessed many homes and people of not just negativity but unwanted apparitions. I have been able to find items that are lost as what they call a ‘see-er’. I can read images, texts, posts, auras and feel a person’s vibrational pull. We all just want a glimpse of things to come. It’s a wonderful and confusing gift, but I do maintain the mindset that we are not meant to know everything. We still need to let life happen; we don’t have free will for the sake of saying we have it. Go out there and make choices, make mistakes. I get clients who are lenient on myself to know everything to come, no surprises. Sometimes surprises can be the best part. The best way to incorporate the shell, is that I do take this gift for granted sometimes. It’s my everyday life. It’s my constant. I forget to some it still may be magical.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One quality I can say I have always had is a strong compulsion to anything most could never perceive outside of a horror movie or a chilling novel.
A skill that I found very impactful was something that manifested later on in life. The ability to sense and see apparitions. A nice joke I like to play off of that is that any house can be a haunted house. As children and even adults, due to mainstream media and old folk tales is to look for the cemetery or the dilapidated, mystery house in the neighborhood, the outskirts of town. When really, we could be standing right beside them in the kitchen.
If someone in this field is looking for improvement, the source is not the internet. Yes, there are many obverse options there that can help gain knowledge and insight. However, it is more romanticized. Talk to communities that take the craft seriously, find a local shop that can help guide you in directions to paths you may not have been aware of. And if you find your medium, ask them. A true child of the light will always help. It doesn’t always come with a price tag.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I am afflicted to say that my biggest obstacle and something that I am currently still struggling with is being hacked. It’s been some time, but formerly I had been steadily building a foundation. I was regularly doing live events, posting more, my cards at a local shop seemed to be picked up from customers often. It was a slow but steady pace. When the hack came about, I was distraught. I fought with the social media outlets to rightfully restore access. But I lost it all. In losing that I lost hope for some time. I still feign an uncertainty that I will ever make it back to where I was or go the distance.
My life has changed a lot since then. I now have a child to take care of with my husband. I still work full time, and I still do client readings. My plate in life has become a torrent and I let that be an excuse more than I would like to admit. But I know that is not what I am meant to be doing. There is more to come for me and I have every intention to make that happen. To quote the great, Robert Frost. “The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.”
