Meet Elaine Messi

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elaine Messi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elaine below.

Elaine, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I have had a life long journey of sadness, pain, disappointments and being let down by the very people that were suppose to love and nourish me. Whether it was my parents abandoning me at 9 months old, being beaten bloody and ending up in a foster home as a teenager or being touched improperly by men as a child or my divorces, I have learned to be strong and resilient. Resilience is what keeps me going. Knowing that no matter what life puts me through I have no other choice than to be RESILIENT and push through because there is always beauty on the other end…..

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As a Community Engager I have multiple projects that are constantly ongoing. My main focus is as a Real Estate Professional/Expert and using my out of the box style and creativity to do Real Estate with a fun twist., however I love to spread my energy wherever I can as a Children’s Performer. “Bubbles” (that’s me) loves making people laugh, jump, dance and sing, You can catch my shows at many different libraries this year by checking the NYPL and Brooklyn Public Library performance schedules. My passion lays in Humanitarian work, I absolutely love to help when and wherever I can. Lately I have been working on so many fun projects at The Build A Dream Incubator located in Staten Island, whether I am hosting them or participating but they include Vision Board Making, Positive Workshops, Fitness Classes and So Much more….

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Being open to learn is very important. There were times throughout the years, (especially in the early years) that I was learning stuff that I felt was useless, something as simple as doing boring mail merges as an administrative assistant, but then to find that years later it was so helpful to know when I started my own business. I also feel like being a waitress at 15 years of age was a great hands on education, it taught me to be quick on my feet, learn the importance of great customer service and multitasking. I never thought a job like that could have taught me so much, however looking back now, it was extremely helpful. Always watch and ask questions, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. If someone is successful at something you like, learn from them and if someone does a job terribly, learn from them as well, Learning isn’t always learning what to do, but also what not to do. I was not blessed with a college education, I learned directly from the school of life and made it work. Hard work, passion and dedication is key. Communicating effectively and adding Value is hands down super important to success in my eyes…..

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

If I knew I only had a decade of life left I would spread love, light and laughter to everyone around me. I would want to laugh everyday and create amazing, impactful and intentional memories. it’s that simple….. Once I’m gone the only thing left of me would be the way I made you feel…… So therefore I would pray that everyone I came in contact with laughed or felt my energy in an amazing way….. and that my children and grandchildren would be so very proud of me…..
