We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful George Castrejon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with George below.
George, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I didn’t grow up with much. Section 8 housing was home, and survival was the daily focus. I failed a lot—at school, jobs, relationships—but each failure taught me something that success never could. I didn’t know it then, but every setback was quietly shaping me into the person I needed to become.
Over time, those lessons turned into drive. I realized that I didn’t just want to survive—I wanted to build something. Something real. Something meaningful.
In 2022, I started my electrical business with a simple vision: to do honest work, provide for my family, and create opportunities for others like me—people who just needed a shot. Today, we’ve got seven employees on payroll. Every one of them matters to me. We’re not just a team—we’re a unit. Most of our work is commercial, with some residential, and we’re proud of every project we touch. We show up, do the job right, and leave things better than we found them.
But the business is only half the story.
The other half is service. That’s why I joined Rotary International. Rotary gave me an outlet to give back, to serve the community that raised me, and to connect with others who believe in something bigger than themselves. Service isn’t a side project—it’s a core value. It’s how I live, lead, and do business.
Looking ahead, we’re scaling up. We’re refining operations, taking on bigger contracts, and getting ready to expand into new regions when the time is right. But even as we grow, the mission stays the same: build something solid, help others rise, and never forget where we came from.
Because in the end, it’s not just about wiring buildings. It’s about lighting up futures.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In the world of business, it’s easy to focus on tasks—contracts, deadlines, and goals. But for me, the true driving force behind lasting success is the power of relationships. I’ve always been passionate about networking, not just because it can open doors, but because it creates a foundation for collaboration, growth, and lasting opportunities.
It’s not just about making deals; it’s about making meaningful, genuine connections built on trust and mutual respect. Over the years, I’ve learned that the best relationships are the ones that are nurtured over time. Whether it’s a first handshake at a community event, a thoughtful conversation over coffee, or a long-standing partnership that’s been built step by step, every interaction is an opportunity—not just for business growth, but for personal growth as well.
Networking isn’t just about what you can get; it’s about what you can give. The real value lies in creating opportunities for others, and in doing so, you also create more opportunities for yourself. By adding value, whether that’s through sharing knowledge, offering support, or solving a problem, you lay the groundwork for trust and respect—two things that can’t be bought, only earned.
This mindset extends beyond short-term wins. I believe in the power of long-term relationships—those built on consistent value creation and mutual benefit. A successful network isn’t just a series of transactional exchanges; it’s a community where everyone contributes, learns, and grows together. These relationships evolve, and over time, they become a network of allies and collaborators who are invested in each other’s success.
Through my involvement with Rotary International and other community groups, I’ve seen how these long-term connections lead to real impact. By working together and focusing on the value we can create for others, we not only achieve more—we help others achieve their goals as well. The sense of purpose that comes from contributing to a larger vision has been an integral part of my journey.
As my business continues to grow, I remain committed to building relationships that are not only valuable today, but that will continue to yield rewards well into the future. Networking, to me, isn’t a one-time interaction—it’s an ongoing process of creating value, fostering trust, and cultivating relationships that stand the test of time.
I’m always looking for the next opportunity to connect, to contribute, and to open new doors. Because when you focus on building long-term relationships and creating lasting value, you’re not just expanding your network—you’re expanding your future.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Active Listening
Listening isn’t just about hearing words—it’s about understanding, interpreting, and responding in a way that fosters connection. Active listening is one of the most important skills I’ve developed, both in business and in life. When you truly listen, you not only gain valuable insights, but you also make people feel heard and valued. This builds trust, strengthens relationships, and opens up the space for deeper collaboration. By practicing active listening, you can identify needs, anticipate challenges, and create solutions that serve both you and others.
2. Value Creation
In both networking and business, value creation is the key to building lasting relationships. It’s not just about what you can get out of a connection or a deal—it’s about what you can offer to others. Whether it’s sharing knowledge, providing resources, or solving a problem, creating value makes you an indispensable part of any relationship or partnership. When people see that you bring value to the table, they are more likely to want to work with you, collaborate with you, and support your growth.
3. Adaptability
The business world—and life itself—is always changing. To thrive, you need to be adaptable and open to new ideas, new technologies, and new ways of doing things. Adaptability means embracing change instead of resisting it. It’s about being flexible when faced with challenges, adjusting your approach when necessary, and continuously learning. The most successful people I know are those who are always looking for ways to improve, evolve, and pivot when the situation demands it. By staying adaptable, you keep your business agile, your relationships fresh, and your mindset growth-oriented.
These three skills—active listening, value creation, and adaptability—are the foundations for building a strong network, creating meaningful relationships, and ensuring sustainable business growth. They’ve been key to my journey, and I believe they can make a real difference for anyone looking to take their business to the next level.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned early on came from the soccer field: You can’t win every game, and you can’t be the champion every year. There will always be setbacks, challenges, and times when things don’t go your way. But that doesn’t mean you stop competing. That doesn’t mean you stop trying to be better.
My soccer coaches and teammates taught me to embrace challenges, knowing that every defeat was a stepping stone toward improvement. It wasn’t about the wins or losses; it was about showing up, giving your best, and always striving to be better. That mindset has carried over into every part of my life—especially in business.
In my business, I live by the principle that you should always compete and train to be better. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and improve. There will be tough days, times when things don’t go as planned, but I’ve learned that what matters most is how you bounce back. It’s about staying hungry, refining your skills, and continuously seeking new ways to improve.
Whether it’s fine-tuning my leadership, growing my business, or training my team, the commitment to always be better keeps me moving forward. Just like in sports, it’s the journey of constant growth that leads to true success.
