We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sierra Sturgis And Hannah Winiger. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sierra Sturgis and Hannah Winiger below.
Sierra Sturgis and Hannah Winiger, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Our work ethic began with the strong desire to grow, lead, and refine the beauty industry.
We want to create beauty with our art, but more importantly, we want to create an atmosphere of relatability.
We’ve both been in the beauty industry for years. We’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. The beauty industry can be competitive and cutthroat- and as much as we love a challenge, the bigger challenge was making our clients feel comfortable, heard, and seen exactly where they are. We don’t ever want to change who someone is. We want to meet them where they are at.
Our work ethic comes from our passion for the above sentiments.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We both come from a creative background and always have a desire to create. Makeup was one of our first passions and we chose to exercise this outlet. Our other huge passion is people, which leads us on the perfect route to the beauty industry.
When we first began, we noticed that bridal makeup was our largest market. So, we began building off of that and are now one of the leading bridal beauty companies in the Central Valley. We service over 100 weddings per year, and have now grown to a team of six.
We realized that there was a large need for brides to get all of their beauty services done for their big day, but always had to go to multiple different vendors/salons. We decided to put our business plan into play by becoming a one-stop shop for brides, which not only takes stress off of them, but they also get to enjoy package discounts.
We recently have expanded to coastal areas of California by launching our travel packages this year, and we can’t wait to see where they take us!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
We think the three skills that impacted our journey are leadership, teamwork, and customer service.
As much as the art of your craft is a huge skill necessary for the beauty industry, the three skills we listed above are what really made our company grow at the rate that it has in such a short amount of time. Pair that with hard work and consistency, and you have a recipe for success!
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
As business owners with hundreds of brides we care for regularly, it’s very easy for us to feel overwhelmed- especially during wedding season. We’ve established a system to keep us from reaching this point. Prevention is key!
First off, we remember that every day comes to an end. When the day is over, put your phone on Do not Disturb. Allow yourself to unplug and unwind on a regular basis every evening or morning. If you have a business partner like we do, constant communication is key. Since our job isn’t like an 8-5, we have to create our own “time off.”
Second, we set realistic goals. Of course we always reach high to push ourselves, but we’re also realistic. When we write down goals, we take our budget, our time, and our well being into consideration.
And lastly, we take good care of our health! We do our best to eat well, get good sleep, exercise and take mental health days. Keeping this balance truly helps the stress stay at bay.
