We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Steven Wong. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Steven below.
Steven, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I believe I get it from my mom. I have watched her over the years, whether the situation was good or bad, my mom is an open-book. She is willing to go the extra mile to support anyone. If she sees someone on the street who looks lost, she will stop to ask if they need help or can she be of any assistance? That is her personality. She has taught me to lead with kindness, compassion, and to never judge a book by its cover. In today’s society, kindness and compassion is truly needed. Like my mom, I tend to put others feelings first to make sure everyone is comfortable. I like to nurture and I live with an open heart.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been in many fields in my career. I am a passionate individual and the line of work that I pursue, I need to have a purpose, a passion, a drive that I feels good to me, where I know I am making a difference. I’ve worked in higher-education, human resources, finance, hospitality, entertainment, and most recently real estate. In all my line of work, I always try to find the creative side that fuels me, where I can learn and grow, while applying those concepts into my real world. As my passion, I love painting, photography, and vlogging my food adventures. What excites me is highlighting mom-and-pop restaurants, that might not receive the public recognition that they deserve. A lot of them are family recipes and they provide the best service, while remembering their loyal customers.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the 3 most impactful skills that I have learned so far would be the following: 1) Communication. Always speak up for yourself, voice your opinion, it is your opinion! Your ideas matter, no matter how big or small, dumb or smart. We learn and grow from everything and mistakes makes us grow quicker. Be your biggest advocate and learn how to market yourself, while not being afraid to meet new people and ask all types of questions. 2) Perseverance. No matter how many failures or mishaps, you have to keep pushing, especially if it is something you want or something you are truly passionate about. Continue to learn and expand your mind, while pushing boundaries in a respectful way. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. 3) Dedication. I see so many people who quit or take a pause but never return to what they really wanted to do. Overnight success is very rare and many success stories always highlight the positive side. But it takes a while to get to that level. Always push thru and if your heart is truly in it, things will fall in line in some sort of shape or form.
