We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with sara below.
Hi Sara, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from building something out of nothing—working weekends, learning as I go, and staying rooted in community when things get tough. I’ve worn many hats—some professional, some creative—but at the heart of it all is a belief that beauty, purpose, and grit can coexist. My work is about identity, uniqueness, and carving space where there wasn’t space before. That’s what keeps me going
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the founder of Charmed On South, a vintage-inspired shop and creative space on South Street in Philadelphia. What began as a passion project has grown into a curated boutique filled with charm jewelry, nostalgic gifts, unique homewares, and vintage fashion. It’s a place where personal style meets storytelling—where local artists and curious visitors alike come to connect, create, and discover something meaningful.
What makes Charmed special is the atmosphere you feel the moment you walk in. It’s nostalgic yet modern—like stepping into a love letter to Philly’s creativity and spirit. Right now, I’m especially excited about our Keep Philly Charming collection. It’s bold, playful, and rooted in local pride—designed to celebrate the heart and soul of the city.
We’re also expanding how we use our back gallery space. From hosting charm parties and featuring local artists to private events and photo shoots, it’s become a hidden gem for those looking to celebrate in a more personal, artful way.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resourcefulness was key from day one. I didn’t have a traditional roadmap or endless resources—I just had an idea, a vision, and the willingness to figure things out as I went. My advice: start where you are, with what you have. You’ll build the rest along the way.
Endurance meant embracing the unknown and pushing forward even when things felt uncertain or overwhelming. There were moments of frustration, doubt, and exhaustion—but I learned to channel those feelings into art, expression, and the evolution of the space. My advice: let your challenges fuel your creativity, not silence it.
And community has been everything. Whether it’s fellow artists, loyal customers, or people who simply believe in what you’re building—don’t underestimate the power of genuine connection. My advice: show up honestly, and you’ll find your people.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
While many people have helped along the way, the person who’s had the biggest impact is my closest friend—an artist who’s been in my life for over 20 years. She’s not just creatively inspiring—she’s the kind of person who flies in, rolls up her sleeves, and gets to work. When Charmed was just an idea, she helped me dig it up from the ground and bring it to life.
Her belief in me—especially in the moments when I doubted myself—has shaped more than just the shop. It’s shaped how I see myself as a creative, a business owner, and a person. She reminds me that building something meaningful is always worth the effort, even when it’s hard.
