Meet Lucas Jensen

We recently connected with Lucas Jensen and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucas, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Its a constant struggle to be honest. I’m incredibly blessed to have the opportunities that I do, but it seems like at some point, every day, I catch myself thinking “they are going to find out I’m really not that good”. After a few minutes of fear, I think of where I started, how far I’ve come, and that I know I’m nowhere near the best, but I damn sure will work harder get closer every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Over that past couple of month I have been building the audio, video, and lighting system for the new Kansas City venue, Warehouse On Broadway. It has taken just about every ounce of my being, cost blood / sweat / tears and many, many hours of my life… but it is the most exciting project I have ever been a part of. With a full Chauvet light rig, controlled by Avolites console, JBL Vertec Line Array system pushed by Allen and Heath SQ7, and a nearly 20ft x 7ft LED wall, I can confidently say that it is the next big wave for live music in Kansas City!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Constant Quest for Knowledge
Signal Flow
Communication

Never stop learning. When you get tired of learning, its time to change paths.

Signal flow is the single most import thing in AVL/Tech. Learning how signal gets from A to Z, and being able to hop in the middle of it to diagnose an issue will make you invaluable.

Communication is the most valuable skill in the world, across any field/life. Being able to quickly figure out how someone communicates, and adapting to that will get you far in life.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Relentless by Tim S. Grover.

Everyone wants to be the “closer”, the one who is given the ball at the last second to make the game winning shot to save the day.

Be a “Cleaner”, someone who doesn’t let you and the team get in the situation where you need a last second 3 – pointer to win the championship.
