We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer STRONG recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I conqure the world with my creative spirit. It’s what keeps me going. Without it, there is no balance, no freedom. At the end of the day, I can’t wait to do something creative the next day.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been creating beautiful art and jewelry for the public since 1992. I started out with just clay, then evolved to stones, fossils, crystals, and more. It has been so rewarding. I make everything from clothing and accessories, to crystal tiaras, paintings, jewelry, crocheted items, apothecary items, candles, and sell crystals and gem stones. My Dad nick named me Moonbeam when I was 14! I woukd often spend hours at a time making clay beads and using his fishing line to string them. I taught classes at an early age and have continued to grow my inventory! I’ll be opening up a little shop inside VA Vintage located at 1650 General Booth Blvd Ste 200, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
I will also be set up at the Virginia Beach Farmer’s Market on selective Saturdays in addition to the following:
March 22: Celebrate Agriculture
April 26: Birthday Bash
May 10: Strawberry Jamboree
June 21: Honey Festival
September 20: Apple Extravaganza
October 11: Harvest Fair
November 8: Fall Festival
December 6: Santa’s Workshop
Tons of fun, family friendly, 3640 Dam Neck Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I had a bad car accident where I broke and compressed my back in 1992. I was bedridden. I could only walk short distances. I took that tragedy and turned my creativity into a lifetime legacy. My advice is, don’t be afraid to be you, express who you are through your creative soul. Balance life out. Don’t always feel like you must work and study without some fun. Seek out nature and sunshine. Be kind to others but take no malarkey! Dabble with different things. You don’t have to have structure and only stick to o ne thing. That limits your thoughts. Creativity is an animal that should roam free.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I’ve met many people on my journey. Some good, some not so good. I’ve learned something from them all. I’ve been burned, I’ve been blessed, I focus on my blessings. I’m grateful for everything that has shaped me. Every year of my life has been a layer to aff expertise in to anything I do. I’ve got passion, fire, and a free spirit. I put myself through business school and I’m also finishing another degree in Criminal Justice. You never stop learning. Always be teachable. You don’t know everything! If you are not learning, you are not living in my opinion! My family, my children, my good friends, and customers have built me up!
