We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Boone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
When I walk into a room as the only woman—or the only out queer person—I’ve learned to turn that isolation into influence. I show up with unwavering confidence and deep preparation, trusting that my unique perspective is exactly what the group needs. Rather than shrinking, I lean in: I listen for the untold gaps, then speak with clarity and heart, knowing my insights carry fresh energy. Over time, I’ve built quiet alliances by investing in curiosity and kindness, so even in a sea of different voices, I’m never truly alone. Standing apart taught me to lead from authenticity—when you dare to be yourself, you invite everyone else to do the same.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At my core I believe every brand has a heartbeat waiting to be heard. I blend intuition, empathy, and a dash of magic—whether I’m directing a tv ad, commercial photo shoot, documentary or guiding a wellness leader to find the soul of their story—and I live for the moment when a client’s eyes light up as their purpose comes into focus. I’m also pouring my heart into a short film about grit, because stories are the bridges that connect us all.
I think my greatest gift as someone who’s been deaf in one ear since childhood and learned to read the world through dyslexia is the art of storytelling. Those challenges sharpened my intuition, taught me to feel the unspoken, and find the pulse beneath the story. I’ve poured my experience and knowledge into two books launching this year to help other photographers and directors navigate the big world we work in. I also have a personal book arriving in early 2026. I believe our stories can heal, inspire, and unite. Whether I’m directing a documentary or coaching a visionary leader, I lean into that superpower, crafting narratives that resonate.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three things carried me through every twist and turn: resilience born from growing up deaf and dyslexic, the deep empathy that comes from learning to read beyond words, and an insatiable curiosity that turned every challenge into a lesson.
For those just starting out, lean into your struggles rather than hide from them—they’ll sharpen your grit and fuel your creativity.
Practice listening as much as talking—notice the stories people don’t say out loud, and let that guide your own voice. And never stop learning: read widely, ask questions, experiment fearlessly, and let each setback teach you something you wouldn’t have learned otherwise. In time, those three pillars become the foundation of everything you build.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who wakes up every morning driven by a deeper calling—whether they’re a wellness guide, a leader, or a CEO with a message that needs to be heard.
They’re curious, courageous, and unafraid to lean into vulnerability. They know their work matters, but they need help translating that passion into a story that resonates.
Above all, they value authenticity over perfection, are open to trusting intuition as much as strategy, and believe that when we share our truest selves, we spark transformation in others. That’s who I love to walk beside.
