We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bianca Cervantes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bianca below.
Hi Bianca, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I grew up at my parents’ jewelry store—in a predominantly Latino working-class neighborhood—
watching my mom with warmth and charisma sell jewelry and my dad skillfully repair jewelry. Their strong work ethic, resilience, and commitment to provide me with a better life shaped my own dreams and ambitions. I witnessed my parents successfully building their jewelry business from the ground up. As I grew up, so did my parent’s business. I saw the sacrifices that were made—working long hours and weekends—but I always felt grateful that I got to witness their journey be an example of hard work and success.
After graduating from college, I moved from Chicago to San Diego with my husband, who was an
active-duty Marine. Transitioning from college student to military spouse was challenging, especially
leaving behind my family and friends. Navigating a new city and military culture was exciting, but it did come with challenges as a newly weds living on one income. I was not living the life I envisioned for myself–an established career, a nice car, and a buzzing social circle. We had no money, no community, and I felt like a failure.
During my job search, I ended up coming across a network marketing company that solely focused on selling life insurance and recruiting everyday people into the industry. The sales pitch struck a chord: bridging the gap between middle class america and the wealthy. I was completely on board. I always asked myself, “what is it that the wealthy have that my parents don’t? They are so hard working, they deserve wealth, too.”
This one question would be the defining moment that would be the beginning of finding my purpose. When I started working in the financial services industry, I could not believe how little emphasis is placed on teaching personal finance and taxes in schools. I became passionate about personal finance as I had to navigate budgeting, managing my finances, and filing taxes for the first time. It was empowering–and eye opening.
Eventually, I moved into wealth management, where I worked with high net-worth clients on their financial, tax, and estate strategies. While I valued the experience, I found it increasingly difficult to connect with the clients I served. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t making the kind of impact I had envisioned. During this time, my husband was working for another wealth management firm, and felt the same way.
As I learned more about holistic financial planning, I came to understand the critical role retirement, tax, and estate planning plays for both individuals and small business owners—regardless of their income level. Through my husband’s employer, a financial planner was open to bringing us on as clients even though we had no investable assets. The industry standard is to have $500k in investable assets to receive this level of service. With the help of our financial planner, we grew our networth from -$47k to $300k.
In 2024, fueled by our growth and a shared sense of purpose, my husband and I left our 9-5s to launch Confianza Wealth Management–a financial planning firm dedicated to guiding first-time wealth builders with less than $500k in investable assets to achieve financial freedom. In 2025, we expanded our mission through our podcast, Building Wealth From Scratch, to educate and empower first-time wealth builders on their wealth-building journey.
Through failure, I was able to find my purpose. I realized that your upbringing, your family, your struggles shape your purpose. Your purpose will evolve with you. I took the leap of faith into a marketing role for our business with zero experience but a powerful why. That why carried me through challenging moments and continues to fuel the work I do today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As the co-founder of Confianza Wealth Management, I’m fortunate to play a role in shaping the services we offer. I’m passionate about creativity and innovation, especially when it comes to solving real-world problems. Through my experience in the wealth management industry, I’ve noticed a key issue: everyday individuals and small business owners would greatly benefit from comprehensive financial planning, but the traditional barrier is the requirement of $500k in investable assets.
This $500k threshold exists because wealth management firms typically structure their fees around assets under management. However, we believe that financial planning should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income or net worth. To address this, we’ve created three service tiers designed to support individuals at various stages of their financial journey: Starter, Advanced, and Ultimate.
Starter Service is focused on helping individuals lay a strong financial foundation. We guide clients through budgeting, debt repayment, and basic savings strategies, so they can build a healthy financial future from the ground up.
Advanced Service is for those who are well on their way in their careers and are ready to take the next step in building wealth. We provide strategic guidance to help clients grow their assets and optimize investment strategies, ensuring they are on track to secure their financial future and provide for their families.
Ultimate Service is for those who have already built a solid financial foundation and are looking to fine-tune their wealth management. This tier offers advanced strategies in investment management, tax optimization, and estate planning, so clients can protect and grow their wealth while planning for the long-term.
The best part? Regardless of which tier you choose, every client goes through a personalized financial planning process, tailored to their specific needs and goals. At Confianza, we’re committed to helping you succeed—no matter where you are in your financial journey.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Letting Go of the Fear of Failure
We live in a society that celebrates success, but rarely acknowledges how failure is often the key to achieving it. This year, I gave myself permission to make mistakes, learn from them, and grow. I realized that if I kept waiting for everything to be perfect, I’d stay stuck. The truth is, you figure it out as you go. Failure isn’t something to fear—it’s something to embrace as a stepping stone to success.
You’ll Never Feel Completely Ready to Start
I learned this lesson the hard way. For years, I told myself I needed more knowledge, more time, more everything before I could start creating content. But I was waiting for a perfect moment that never came. The reality is, the goals you set can often feel too big and overwhelming. My advice? Start small. The more you show up, the more progress you’ll make—and before you know it, you’ll be further along than you ever thought possible.
Build a Community and Become the Person You Want to Attract
One of the most powerful shifts I’ve made in my journey was surrounding myself with people who were actively building businesses. When I aligned myself with others who shared similar goals and struggles, it became easier to stay motivated and resilient. Your community can become your greatest asset, offering support, ideas, and inspiration, especially when challenges arise. If you want to attract success, start by building the kind of relationships that align with your vision.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, we’re actively seeking to connect with CPAs and estate attorneys who work with young married couples, veterans, retirees, and small business owners. We believe that our services align perfectly, and together, we can offer even more value to our clients. Additionally, we’re excited to refer business to trusted CPAs and estate attorneys who share our vision of helping people build and protect their wealth, especially if you speak Spanish!
We’re also open to collaborating with other personal finance influencers or podcasters who are passionate about wealth-building and financial literacy. If you’re interested in sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, or teaming up on exciting projects, we’d love to connect!
