We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cierra Sumpter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cierra, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience when I lost my mother in 2016. When my mother passed I had to grow up quick because she did pretty much everything for me. I feel into a Depp depression because I didn’t know how I would make it without her being here. But through prayer, God brought my vision to passed that I told my mom what I wanted to do. That is when my businesses was birthed.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Cierra Hopkins and I’m a 34 year old Business woman. I run a multiplicity of business in the city of Saint Louis, Mo. I started out making children clothes, t-shirt, shoes etc and ventured off and opened up a furniture store called Bevs Furniture, Credit Repair Company and Entertainment business. What got me into what I do now is when I lost my mother. My mother was my heart, my everything. Her passing Spark a lot inside of me that I did not know was there. I would tell my mom what I wanted to do career wise and one thing that I will never forget is her words of wisdom. So with that we have grown over these last few years in the city with our customized t-shirts, clothing, shoes, and pretty much anything you can think of we can do it!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My 3 most important quality of skills that has been most impactful on my journey is Communication, Adaptability and Problem Solving.
In order to maintain a successful business you have to have great communication. Communication is key to any business. Another thing in order to maintain a success business is you have to remain professional at all times. You never know who is watching you or know you. Make sure that whatever you do its in a timely manner and if you can’t commit to the timeframe have that open communication with you clients.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my mother did for me was imparted wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Her prayers and my own personal prayers got me to where I am right now.
