We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amos A Gregory Jr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amos A, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Watching my grandmother, father and mother demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity provided me with powerful examples of strength and perseverance. My grandmother having faced significant challenges over her lifetime showed me how to maintain grace under pressure. Her ability to stay calm and collected during tough times gave me a model of emotional resilience. Whether it was through storytelling or her unwavering presence she taught me patience and the importance of inner strength. My father’s commitment to working hard no matter the odds showed me the power of determination and the impact of a strong work ethic in overcoming obstacles. His ability to innovate solutions or persist despite setbacks demonstrated how resilience involves both thinking and persistence. By watching my mother navigate challenges with compassion and understanding I learned that adversity doesn’t just demand toughness but also kindness and the ability to find creative solutions.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am dedicated to offering the skateboarding community unique deck designs that not only stand out visually but also enhance performance. Each of our designs is a labor of love, inspired by the culture and passion that skateboarding embodies. My goal is to ensure that every skater can express their individuality on a board that reflects who they are. I’m excited to announce the launch of our new Shopify shop which makes are skateboards more accessible.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, honesty, and understanding have been the cornerstones of my personal journey, shaping not only my character but also my approach to challenges. Patience has taught me that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Whether it was perfecting my skateboard designs or building my business, I’ve learned to embrace the journey and trust the process. Every setback has been an opportunity to grow and improve, reminding me that perseverance is key. Honesty has been crucial. I’ve always believed in being transparent about my products and practices which fosters loyalty and encourages open communication. This honesty extends to self-reflection as well, allowing me to learn from my mistakes and make better decisions. Understanding has helped nurture relationships and create a supportive environment for everyone involved. To anyone facing challenges, my advice is never give up, no matter what.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book that has played an important role in my development is the Bible by teaching me the importance and impact of having faith.
