We recently connected with Amy Looper and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Following God’s will which often requires taking risks. It is in the challenges that we are sharpened, strengthened and realize that that we can lead with courage, commitment, compassion, connection and confidence no matter the circumstance we’re navigating.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I help people transform their lives after they’ve experienced a life changing event. Whether it is burnout, divorce, grief after losing a loved one or suffering a health issue or making a career change, transformation is a beautiful process where humans are called to their next level of greatness. We can’t get there, though, if we’re stuck in feelings of fear, anxiety or chronic stress so it is such a privilege to help others in this way. I also work with corporations so the newest project I’m working on takes Resilient Growth into the boardroom where I facilitate workshops with executive leaders facing profound uncertainty. I help them see the opportunities behind the challenges they are facing and how to lead their teams through change and transformation.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Sales, empathetic communication and agility. My 18+ years of selling complex software was an excellent training ground for being a founder and it is the agility and empathetic communication that I’ve been able to continue to evolve around designing all of my services and offerings to what my client really needs. It’s about creating impact and effective outcomes, that’s the most satisfying aspect of building my type of business.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I want to give a shout out to Marc VonMusser. He is very well known in the coaching world, former VP of Sales for Tony Robbins. Marc isn’t shy about sharing his stories of resilience. In the moments where I’ve wanted to give up, I remember his impactful messages like “God doesn’t make junk and you’re no exception”. In those moments where we don’t think we have it all together, that we’re “not good enough”, we’re always just facing the things we get to breakthrough. In those moments, I remember that I’m on this assignment as a business owner on purpose, it’s a journey that truly has given me the biggest growth moments in my life. There is nothing that will test you like bootstrapping your dream.
