Meet Katherine Shapiro

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katherine Shapiro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Katherine, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Resilience is born in the shadows. In the dark, musty places of our minds that we often don’t like going to. Resilience is found in the everyday choices to put one foot in front of the other, and the places where we find new edges we never knew we had. Sometimes life pushes us off the ledge and other times it is a push and pull of everyday tasks that seem like drudgery. My inner resilience has always been there, walking along side me, whether I believed it or not. I found it in the darkest moments of my life, these shadow spaces where I couldn’t see light anymore. There was an ember, a small burning fire that whispered, “you are love, you are loved” and it was like a salve to my broken heart. It was just enough light to show the path ahead. Trauma and hardships try to take our light and vital life force energy, and yet we will always have this flame, burning and glowing inside of us. All we have to do is be still, look within and we will find it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Kat Shapiro, DipWSET is an all around badass. She is a wine and wellness advocate that has 20 years experience in restaurants, 15 years of yoga practice and teaching and 10 years of wine training under her belt. She found that living in the energy of wine is living in harmony with the Earth because it mirrors our human lives so well. It is the study and art of life, through a wine glass.

There is also this mindful aspect of both ‘wine and wellness’ where she promotes healthy and whole living where we taste and sip exceptional wines of the world in an expansive, holistic way. At ZenWine, we drink to expand rather than escape. Kat teaches people how to live in abundance and creativity, while sharing stories of winemakers and vineyards all around the world.

Kat is a wine educator for Wine and Spirit Archive, Sales Superstar for Mark Ryan Winery, a Keynote Speaker, Wine Club Business Owner and is very passionate about helping women reclaim their personal power. Her favorite wine is Champagne, all styles from a zingy Brut Nature, a tannic Rosé Saignee or simply a classic, brioche-y Grand Cru Brut.

You can find her services and wine club on her website at ZenWineClub.com.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities of getting to the “expert” level of anything is commitment, resilience and intuition. First, having the tenacity to take small actions every single day to your goals is key. We can work less and attract more with our aligned energy but if we do not put in the work, then we can only get so far. Committing to your goals and never giving up has to be your north star. Then, the resilience to be knocked down, slowed down and overall just beat down has to be a strand in your DNA. Growing a thick skin and knowing you have the power to stand back up when you are ready, this is everything! Lastly, intuition and having a relationship with your inner compass. This will allow you to move with fluidity and grace and get rejected without taking a hit to the ego. Intuition is everything. It tells us whether to stay and hold on or when it is time to pack our bags and go. It also provides the “why” behind our motives and what we are trying to go for. How do you want to feel in this lifetime? Start with a connection to your heart, your source. Move with love, freedom and grace and know all will be well.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking for aligned partnerships to build up a community of like-minded folks. Sometimes the divide between the wine industry and the spiritual community is big, and I like to close that gap by building new tables. I have been called the “Spiritual Somm” and I would love to connect with people that align with this message, or those that are curious on how to connect further with nature, tasting and sensory, and having a strong mindfulness practice.
