We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Karla Evans And Dr. Veronica Tetterton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Karla Evans and Dr. Veronica Tetterton, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
From a very young age, we both knew we were called to be helpers and had a passion for being a variable of change in the equation of people’s lives. We were naturally gifted with empathy and a desire to be a bridge for hopeless people to live their best life. For us, it wasn’t as much about finding our purpose, it was more about discovering the different ways these natural giftings would emerge in life. We both took a path leading us to clinical psychology and spent about a decade treating inmates in federal prisons. Later, our paths would merge as we began a radio show together where we highlighted both our clinical skills and faith to encourage women. We later found purpose in the technology space as we developed Anticipate Joy, an online counseling platform. From prison psychologists to innovative telemental health entrepreneurs, our purpose has never changed. We are called to help people anticipate joy.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities that have impacted our journey have been faith, grit & optimism
Faith: Our relationship with God has been our guiding principle for every decision we make. Every risk we have taken, we have confidently embraced it knowing we are living in our destiny. This faith has been our rock in times of uncertainty making us walk confidently in obedience knowing the reward will overshadow our feeling of being overwhelmed.
Grit: We are committed to seeing our purpose being fulfilled and we embrace discomfort because we know growth comes from perseverance. That’s why after 7 years of being in business, through some challenging seasons of more debt than revenue, we have never lost hope and kept putting one foot in front of the other to stay focused on our mission. We know our grit is not just about reaching our goal, but it is about leading people to a more full and abundant life.
Optimism: Our mantra is, “Shift your focus, Anticipate Joy!” has helped hundreds of people realize the importance of taking care of their mental health and seeing beyond the current pain. Our posture of optimism comes from the basic premise that we expect good. This expectation encourages us to positively enter any intimidating boardroom. While we have encountered challenges along the way as entrepreneurs, we strive to look for the positive in every situation.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Being driven for purpose and impact gives us strength and energy on what feels like a marathon at times. There are certainly days we have to remind ourselves to put one foot in front of the other, focusing on the immediate task ahead to avoid feeling stressed or prevent hasty decision-making. We continue to remain consistent to maintaining a culture of excellence while still valuing the process over perfection. We work hard to abide by healthy boundaries and self-care. Some practical strategies we incorporate daily include exercise, healthy eating, prayer, a moderate dose of laughter, and leaning on those who give us strength and support.
