Meet Enrique Brito

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Enrique Brito a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Enrique, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic comes from the urgency to express the invisible emotions, life cycles, and human connections that can’t always be translated into words. I paint because I need to understand and transform what I feel. I work from inner chaos, from the fire of the unconscious, but with the discipline of someone who knows that every stroke is a spiritual and biological search. Consistency allows me to engage with the unknown, and art becomes a vital, almost ritual act. I don’t work only when I’m inspired I work because art is my way of breathing.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Certainly! I’m Enrique Brito, painter based in Los Angeles for over 30 years. My artistic journey has led me to explore various styles and techniques from oil to acrylic yet I remain passionately committed to creating a style that is uniquely my own. I believe that today’s artists must go beyond imitation and develop a visual language that offers something new and meaningful.

For me, painting is more than a craft it’s a way to bridge worlds. When I paint, I feel as though I step into another plane, as if entering a dream. That sense of transcendence is what I try to capture and share through my work. Over the years, I’ve created nearly 500 pieces that reflect this vision.

My artistic path began in childhood, where certain life events deeply marked my perception and still influence my work today. I refer to this as my Formative Period, where my emotional and cultural roots took shape.

Later in my career, I began to embrace a broader, more metaphysical perspective that I now call the Cosmic Painter phase. This is where my work began to explore universal ideas connecting the viewer to the cosmos through color, form, and symbolism. I often find inspiration in philosophical thought, using it to contextualize and expand my creative process.

At the moment, I’m continuing to evolve this cosmic narrative through new works, exhibitions, and collaborative projects. I’m also working on bringing my art to new audiences, possibly through digital collections and immersive installations that allow people to truly “enter” the dream like worlds I create.

If there’s one thing I’d love readers to take away, it’s that art is not just an object it’s an experience, a portal to something deeper. My mission is to invite people to cross that threshold.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Creative Freedom and Emotional Support
One of the most powerful gifts my parents gave me was the freedom to create. They never forced me to follow a certain path or limit my imagination. This trust allowed me to explore my creativity without fear or judgment. My father, in particular, helped me overcome my fear of darkness both literal and symbolic. That early experience taught me that even fear can be transformed into inspiration.

2. Perseverance
I firmly believe that what I dream, I can make real. That conviction has kept me going through uncertainty, obstacles, and doubt. Perseverance is what turns a vision into something tangible. Every step I’ve taken has brought me closer to materializing the life and work I imagined. My advice to anyone just starting their journey is simple: be stubborn with your purpose. Keep showing up for your dream, even when it’s invisible to others.

3. Self-Knowledge
Perhaps the most important aspect is knowing who you are. Truly. Understanding your identity, your voice, and the unique energy you bring to this world is the foundation of everything. You navigate this earthly plane with your body, your mind, and your story so take time to reflect, to correct course when needed, and to remain loyal to your essence. From that place of awareness, you can align your desires with your destiny.

To those at the beginning of their path: embrace your individuality, listen deeply to yourself, and never stop shaping your dream into reality.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

First, my father.
He taught me how to dialogue with the night, the animals, the wind to see the world as something alive, something to listen to. He helped me understand and manage my emotions, especially my fears. Instead of running from them, he showed me how to make peace with them. That internal calm, that emotional awareness, has been one of the most important foundations for my creativity and resilience.

Second, my older brother.
He has always been my guardian, my support system. He’s someone I can count on always there when I need him. His presence has given me strength and stability, and knowing he’s by my side has helped me stay grounded throughout my journey.

Together, they helped me become the person and artist I am today.
