Meet Jen Sukhan

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jen Sukhan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jen, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?

This has always been something challenging to me because I’m a type A person who loves a plan, knowing all the details and then needing to finish it no matter how hard I had to push. When I became a Mom in 2022 that all had to change because my time was no longer my own to just push through, I had a little girl who became my whole world and needed me to be the best version of my self to raise her and care for her. What I’ve come to realize that is this, you don’t have to do everything all at once (it still is something that I have to manage regularly and check in on myself with where I’m at and think through what the pros/cons of me pushing onward could be) but it also mean finding ways to do things even more organized and simply because over complicating things that don’t need to be complicated eats up a lot of time and adds more stress. I’ve had to learn to say no to things, I’ve prioritized my health more than ever and a big piece of that has been thanks to becoming a Mom because I want to be the best role model for her. She needs to see her Mom looking after herself, creating boundaries and sticking to them even if it’s not always easy. I also find that tackling things now in smaller time frames so that I’m still getting closer to the end goal helps, even if it means we’re not getting to the end goal as fast.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Working in Human Resources taught me the one thing that makes the biggest difference in running a successful business: Relationship building. Conversations about pay, benefits, and workplace concerns weren’t just business transactions; they were deeply personal. Employees needed someone who listened, understood, cared, and most importantly someone they could trust. Approachability, and genuine connection weren’t just nice-to-haves, they’re essential. It’s what builds trust in meaningful relationships. The lack of these qualities in many workplaces is what ultimately pushed me into entrepreneurship. That’s why I do what I do today. As a lead generation and communications strategist, I help business owners use social media to build and maintain meaningful relationships that drive long-term growth. No sleazy sales tactics. No pitch slaps. No shortcuts. I believe in a different approach, one that prioritizes real human connection, that allows you to become the obvious choice and turn those real relationships into potential deal relationships.

How you lead your business in the inbox is a direct indicator of the care your clients receive once working with you. The online world works differently today yet you still only get one opportunity to make a first impression. Don’t turn people off before they even get a chance to speak with you. When you have better conversations & build better relationships from the get-go – you build a better strategy that attracts more leads to you! Many business owners have been burned by false promises, smoke & mirrors, misaligned courses, & have been told anything & everything just to make a sale. Today it takes longer to build trust. It takes longer to self-qualify. And it takes more intentional conversations. That’s where I step in & use my knowledge to help service-based businesses foster genuine relationships through social media.

There are too many business owners out there who are great at what they do, but aren’t being found because they’re not using social media as effectively as they could be to gain visibility, create amazing experiences throughout the entire buyer journey and that’s really where I love spending my time helping – finding personalized ways to help them become the obvious choice in their industry. I’ve always loved entertaining and hosting and thinking about all the nice details that to into that for my guests and so with that along with my skills from being in the HR world, I’ve translated that into the online space. Especially when you’re dealing with text only, we don’t have the normal cues like voice, facial expressions, body language to reference so the words you use really matter. I’ve also found that the social space has become the new “call centre” people are reaching out to ask questions and sadly from my own experience there are brand that have lost my business because of no response. How people feel in their interactions with your business matters and there needs to be more focus in that area, that is what can truly differentiate you.

One of my goals for this year is to help as many business owners as I can set up the foundations to gain visibility and grow their presence while giving their online audience the best experience so I’ve created an offer called “What Would Jen say Voxer Days” it’s a voice and text app where we work together for 4 weeks to find aligned clients that match your industry, services, gain certainty in who to engage with and what to say, become an expert in how to comment on posts so you stand out, and send DMs that show your expertise without sound salesy. Content is not enough, engaging is the companion that needs to go along with that.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Never stop learning, there are lessons in things that aren’t even fully applicable to what you do daily that you can dissect and put into practice for your own business. Spend time with people who are ahead of you in the journey (even if it feels uncomfortable) ask for help, that doesn’t make you weak. Recognize the areas where you thrive with your skills and where you don’t. Invest in help there so you can spend more time in your zone of genius.

People are always going to be apart of business and how you connect and continue to build those relationships can have a direct impact on how things can progress in business and all areas of life. It’s not always just about business, connect over things that are true in your own life that are authentic to you (the more uncommon the better) because that will strengthen relationships. I know from my own experience, any hiring or investing I’ve done has come because I got to know the person first and built some trust and rapport and that has actually been a factor that made me choose someone over another person.

Persistence. For some reason people expect entrepreneurship to be easy. Like getting clients is a simple as ordering from an app, it’s not like that at all. You have to show up, consistently, put in a lot of time, even when you don’t want to and continue on. I always say it’s like a walk in Jurassic Park because you never know what’s going to come at you from day to day. Sometimes that’s half the fun, and sometimes that means you want to throw in the towel which is totally normal. No matter what chapter of business we’re in, we have to deal with that at every stage but as you progress you just learn how to navigate more effectively so you can continue to get yourself closer to where you want to be.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I love working with service based female business owners who recognize that building relationships and putting people at the forefront is important and a nonnegotiable in their businesses but perhaps don’t have the time or want to spend time on social media implementing that or they have support in their businesses from employees but don’t have the time, energy or skills to set them up properly to have the social communication set up. I work best with people who are coachable and recognize that we’re partnering together because of the area of expertise I have and that means being able to trust what I’m saying and not just wanting me to come in to implement a plan they have. They need to be responsive and communicative, open to conversation around why we’re doing things the way we are and being patient, not expecting overnight results. Good things take time, especially when you’re laying the foundation for growth in the future.
