Meet Ashanti Davis

We recently connected with Ashanti Davis and have shared our conversation below.

Ashanti, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
To keep it simple, my confidence is rooted in my faith. There will always be times when I don’t feel confident or when I wonder if I’m the best candidate for a role, but I’ve learned that I don’t have to be perfect. I operate in the identity that I’m a child of God, and that alone has given me the courage and self-esteem to push myself forward. It’s like having a constant reminder that I’m enough, even on days when I feel uncertain. So, I show up—even when it’s hard. And honestly, when you show up as yourself, it’s easier to find the courage to keep going! Confidence, for me, isn’t about perfection; it’s about being true to who I am and trusting the process.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Well, I love a good story, and since I’m Gen Z, I’m basically contractually obligated to be obsessed with social media. So, naturally, I had to make a career out of it! But all jokes aside, my passion really comes down to one thing: serving and connecting with people. My brand, Onyx Marketing, is all about helping businesses tell their stories in a creative, authentic way that resonates with their audience. I believe that every brand has a unique voice, and it’s my job to bring that voice to life through content, strategy, and social media.

What excites me most about what I do is the ability to be both creative and strategic at the same time. I get to work with incredible brands, dive deep into their identity, and help them showcase who they really are to the world. It’s a balance of art and business, and I love how dynamic it is. Plus, seeing the results—whether it’s growth in their community, a viral post, or just feeling like their brand finally “clicks”—that’s what makes it all worth it.

I think the most special part of my work is the relationships I build. It’s not just about the content or the strategy; it’s about understanding the people behind the brand and helping them feel seen and heard. Whether it’s small businesses, nonprofits, or artists, I want to make sure they know that their story matters, and I’m here to help amplify it.

As for what’s new, we’re always growing and evolving at Onyx Marketing! We’re expanding our team and services, and I’m really excited about the direction we’re heading. I’m also working on launching some new educational resources to help businesses build their brands from the ground up. So, keep an eye out for that!

In a nutshell, my brand is all about bringing creativity, authenticity, and strategy together to help businesses succeed. And I’m just getting started!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey were adaptability, creativity, and a growth mindset.

Adaptability has been huge for me, especially in an ever-evolving industry like digital marketing. Things are always changing—whether it’s social media algorithms or the latest content trends—so being able to pivot and stay flexible has allowed me to keep up and even get ahead. For anyone just starting out, my advice would be to embrace change and learn how to roll with the punches. You don’t have to have everything figured out from day one, but being open to trying new things and adapting along the way will set you up for success.

Creativity has been at the core of my work, especially in brand strategy and content creation. I love finding fresh, innovative ways to tell stories and build connections. If you’re early in your journey, I’d say, don’t be afraid to experiment. Put your ideas out there and see what sticks. The more you create, the better you’ll get at it—and the more confident you’ll feel in your ability to think outside the box.

Finally, a growth mindset has been essential. I’ve learned that failure isn’t something to be feared—it’s an opportunity to learn and grow. There are so many things I didn’t know when I first started out, and there’s still so much to learn. But the key is staying curious, being willing to learn from mistakes, and not letting setbacks discourage you. My advice for anyone starting out would be to stay focused on progress, not perfection. Keep learning, keep improving, and be patient with yourself. The journey is just as important as the destination.

So, to sum it up: stay adaptable, nurture your creativity, and always have a mindset that thrives on growth!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, absolutely! I’m always on the lookout for exciting collaborations. At Onyx Marketing, we love working with individuals and brands that are passionate about storytelling, creativity, and making an impact. Right now, I’m particularly focused on connecting with nonprofits in the mental health space. I want to offer free marketing services to organizations that are doing incredible work to raise awareness, provide support, and make a difference in people’s lives.

If you’re part of a mental health nonprofit and need help with your marketing strategy or content creation, I’d love to partner with you! Whether it’s crafting a social media campaign or developing an entire brand strategy, I’m passionate about supporting organizations that prioritize mental health and well-being.

If you’re reading this and think we could collaborate, please reach out! You can DM me on Instagram or email me directly. Let’s connect and work together to create meaningful content that can help make a positive impact in the mental health space!
