Meet Lara Alcantara Lansberg

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lara Alcantara Lansberg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Lara , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?

For me, creativity blocks are invitations, not obstacles. They usually signal that something deeper needs attention, fatigue, fear, perfectionism, or even the need for a shift in direction. When I hit a block, I don’t try to bulldoze through it. I pause, get curious, and change the context. Sometimes I go for a walk, break something in my workshop and rebuild it, or write freely without judgment. I also lean into rituals, small, consistent habits like lighting a candle, setting a timer for 15 minutes, or using my hands to create something physical. These rituals help bypass the overthinking mind and reconnect me to play, which is the birthplace of creative flow. Over the years, I’ve also realized that blocks lose power when shared. That’s why I lead workshops that help others transmute blocks into breakthroughs, because creativity, at its heart, is a form of self-trust

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, and creative coach based in Brooklyn. My work lives at the intersection of storytelling, self-discovery, and transformation, whether it’s through conceptual photography, immersive installations, or the workshops I lead. I’m particularly drawn to themes of identity, emotional release, and the quiet power of reinvention.

What excites me most is helping people reconnect with their creative essence, not just as a skill but as a birthright. For years, I was told my art was just a “hobby,” even after earning my MFA and exhibiting internationally. It took a lot of unlearning to reclaim my voice, and now, through my work, I help others do the same.

One of the projects closest to my heart right now is my Breaking the Plates workshop. It’s a deeply cathartic experience where participants quite literally break plates after journaling on them, representing old narratives or emotional baggage, and then mend the pieces using gold leaf and resin, turning them into symbolic works of art. It’s a powerful metaphor for healing and resilience, and I’ve seen people walk away lighter, braver, and more creatively awake.

I’m also working on a memoir style book that blends personal narrative with creative exercises and reflections on motherhood, divorce, and artistic rebirth. And later this year, I’ll be guiding a weeklong photography and creative retreat in Iceland for a group of women founders, a journey into raw landscapes, inner clarity, and artistic expansion.

At the core of everything I do is a belief that creativity is not just an act of expression, it’s a path to wholeness.

Let’s stay connected, I love building community around creativity, healing, and artistic courage.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three things have been essential in my journey:
resilience, curiosity, and self trust.

Resilience helped me keep going through rejection, creative blocks, and the quiet moments when no one was watching or validating the work. Being an artist, a mother, and an entrepreneur often means building something from nothing, and doing it over and over again. The ability to stay in the process, even when it feels uncomfortable or uncertain, has been my greatest teacher.

Curiosity kept me moving forward creatively. Instead of waiting for a perfect idea, I allowed myself to explore, experiment, and play. That’s how I discovered new methods, mediums, and messages that ultimately became part of my signature style. It also helped me stay open to collaboration and growth, even when the outcome was unknown.

Self-trust is what took the longest to develop, but it’s the foundation of everything. Trusting that your voice, your story, your way of creating is valid even when it doesn’t look like anyone else’s is powerful. That’s what allows you to make brave work and make decisions aligned with your vision, not just trends or external pressure.

My advice:
Start where you are, with what you have. Create consistently, not perfectly. Surround yourself with people who see your potential even when you can’t, and seek out environments that nourish your creativity rather than drain it. Most importantly, be willing to fail forward. Every detour is part of the map.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! I’m always open to meaningful collaborations. I’m especially interested in connecting with photographers, art directors, producers, and storytellers who are driven by intention, emotion, and a desire to create work that resonates on a deeper level.

Whether it’s a conceptual shoot, a brand campaign, an editorial piece, or an immersive art experience, I love co-creating with people who value originality, vulnerability, and powerful narratives. I’m drawn to collaborators who think outside the box, honor process as much as product, and want to make something that moves people not just aesthetically, but emotionally.
