Meet Natasha Patino

We were lucky to catch up with Natasha Patino recently and have shared our conversation below.

Natasha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I often find that when we go through hard things, we can learn something from it and grow. It’s not for nothing, even if it’s difficult. I found my purpose, career-wise, with a father that was very sick mentally, suicidal, with limited resources in our area due to speaking mostly Spanish. This was hard on him and eventually our family broke apart. found my purpose through this difficult experience. I found I enjoyed being the one people turn to, for help, and found a career as a licensed psychotherapist. I am grateful that I am also able to provide these services in Spanish, whereas before this resource was very limited.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a bilingual licensed Psychotherapist in the downtown Greenville (SC) area. I am proud to be one of the owners and business partners at Pettigru Counseling Associates, an established practice that has been part of the community for decades.

I am most excited about my blogs, where I am able to spread more educational information in Spanish (natashapatino.com) . In the past, I found it extremely difficult to find materials in Spanish to share with my clients, so I’m trying to provide this space for resources. I am also excited about being able to provide psychotherapy services in Spanish to help individuals and families thrive, where there still tends to be a lot of stigma towards it. I specialize in trauma and have found how much this impacts families, even among generations so to be able to provide this service is a humbling opportunity for me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

– Flexible (having a growth mindset). This is SO important because I have found that the happiest and more peaceful people are the ones that are flexible. They are open to growing, open to learning, more open to feedback, and overall better partners, parents, employees, employers, etc.

-Hard-working. It doesn’t matter if you’re cleaning a table or running a company, it’s important to work hard to meet your goals.

-Optimistic. This quality is important because it helps us stay calm to think through things, gives us hope to continue to move forward, and helps us have empathy with others.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents were very hard workers and instilled that in us. I started working when I was 14 years old and have always had a job or was in school until I graduated. This has helped me so that no matter what project I’m working on, I give it 100% and make sure I am proud of what I accomplish.
