Meet Kesha Christie

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kesha Christie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kesha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I didn’t always know my purpose. For a long time, I was just trying to survive.

I grew up in Stony Hill, Jamaica, in a home where love had to stretch thin. My mother left when I was young to try and build a better life abroad. The money she sent back didn’t always find its way to me and my sisters. I was the eldest, and before I even understood what childhood meant, I was already playing the role of mother, protector, and provider. There were days when the only thing on the menu was fruit from a nearby tree, and even that we had to ration.

But I held on. Even when I was pulled out of school for unpaid fees, even when I had to “boom” rides to get to high school, even when I felt unseen, I held on. I believed deep down that there had to be more, and that I wasn’t going through all of this just to suffer. That belief became my anchor.

I went on to earn my doctorate in taxation, and I built a business, KCLH Full Business Solutions, to help others build theirs. But the turning point for me wasn’t academic or professional. It was personal. I started to look back at all I’d overcome, and I realized that my pain had a purpose. My voice, my story, it all mattered.

Through my book The Currency of Grit, I began to share not just what I’d learned, but who I’d become. I wanted others to see that grit isn’t something you’re handed, it’s something you earn. Every day, in every decision to keep going.

My purpose is this: to use my story and my voice to remind others of their power. To show that no matter where you start, your story can end in triumph, and maybe even help someone else along the way.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Dr. Kesha Christie, and at the heart of my journey is a deep, personal belief: everything I’ve been through wasn’t just for me, it was for the people I’m meant to empower. I’m a tax strategist, business advisor, and author, but more than anything, I’m a living testament to the power of grit and grace.

My personal brand is built on transparency, transformation, and truth. I speak, write, and mentor from a place of experience, having faced real challenges, made tough decisions, and built a life and business rooted in discipline and purpose. My new book, The Currency of Grit, captures that journey. It’s for the woman who’s doubting herself, the entrepreneur overwhelmed by systems, the professional ready to pivot. It’s a reminder that your story isn’t over, and your breakthrough might just be buried under your consistency.

Professionally, I’m also the founder and Managing Director at KCLH Full Business Solutions, a firm committed to helping individuals and companies build solid financial foundations. Through KCLH, we offer everything from taxation and payroll to business advisory. It’s where my passion for structure meets my purpose of helping others grow what they’ve been called to build.

More than anything, I want people to know that I’m not selling perfection, I’m standing in purpose. And whether it’s through my book, my voice, or my firm, I’m here to serve.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that shaped my journey were resilience, discipline, and strategic thinking.

Resilience was built from the tough times, like when I had to walk miles to school with no money for transport. In The Currency of Grit, I share how those challenges taught me to keep going, even when the odds were against me. For anyone starting out, resilience is about pushing through the hard moments and using them to build strength.

Discipline became my foundation. In the early days of my business, I worked late nights, balancing my job and side projects. In the book, I explain how discipline, not motivation, got me through. My advice: build your routines and stay consistent, even when the excitement fades.

Strategic thinking helped me grow KCLH Full Business Solutions. I had to assess risks, plan ahead, and separate services to focus on what mattered. As I mention in The Currency of Grit, it’s not just about reacting to today’s challenges, but anticipating what’s next.

Start by embracing challenges to build resilience, creating a consistent routine to develop discipline, and thinking long-term to make strategic decisions. Focus on small wins, stay consistent, and trust the process, success comes from persistence, not perfection.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

God has been the foundation of everything for me. In moments when I felt like I had nothing left, it was my faith that reminded me that I was never walking alone. Every bit of strength, clarity, and growth I’ve experienced is rooted in Him.

Tamara my sister has also been instrumental. She’s the person who reminds me of my power when I forget it. Her honesty, support, and unwavering presence have helped me stay grounded and focused through every high and low.

And my sons, my greatest motivation. They’ve taught me resilience, patience, and purpose. Knowing they’re watching inspires me to keep growing, not just for me, but to model the kind of strength and character I want them to carry into the world.
