Meet ANASS LAKHDARI

We recently connected with ANASS LAKHDARI and have shared our conversation below.

ANASS, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

I believe my self-discipline comes from understanding that life is short. It is inevitable to allocate the necessary time every day to achieve some small SMART personal goals. I believe in the midst of the digital world in which we are living today, few people take the time to write down daily SMART goals and to stick them. It is very easy to be distracted more than ever, and it is not easy to stay focused. These daily SMART goals give me the strength to live my life with purpose as well as to keep this
self-discipline. In short, self-discipline comes first from the awareness that time is limited, and if I do not seize the time I have in my life, I will not achieve these small daily SMART goals I set for myself. These small SMART goals that I accomplish every day give me more energy to come closer to bigger GOALS over the long-term and to stay motivated.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am someone who has a true motivation to bring a positive transformation to the next generation of young speakers and leaders around the World. I have been successful to interview at a very young age in the past some incredible
World Champions of Public Speaking as well as some notable LinkedIn Learning Instructors and authors who came
exclusively to share their amazing insights as well as rich expertise in various fields, mainly public speaking and leadership to help with my mission to develop tremendously next generation of young speakers and leaders around the World.
Despite the great things that I have done to inspire this next generation, I see myself as a humble man who has more room to learn and improve continuously. I do not know everything, and I do not have all the answers. But, I always tend to ask myself pertinent questions and learn about them from various resources, online or offline to expand further my knowledge. I feel that public speaking and leadership are two interesting areas that comprise a vast encyclopedia of knowledge. I believe that public speaking and leadership fields could gain more momentum as well as new perspectives if people who are interested in these fields come together to scrutinize several topics within these fields and exchange their different views. I do not see myself yet that I am an established expert successful person in public speaking or leadership, but I see myself as a humble learner who is willing to learn and to develop more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe being humble is the first quality that you need to have. If you are humble, it means you recognize that you do not know and that you are open to learn more and to develop. The second quality is being curious to expand your knowledge and to be disciplined every day. Without being disciplined daily, you will not reach a great progress in your learning journey. Learning is small dots that add up to make a big exponential curve. If you skip days without learning, you will not reach this exponential curve. I believe the third quality is being open to reach out to other experts and to learn from them. When you learn from experts, you acquire the most recent pieces of information in a given field, which gives you some expertise if done consistently. Then, learning by yourself is the next important bonus quality that can make you able to examine more several areas related to your field of interest and complete your knowledge.

My advice for folks who are early in their journey to develop these qualities is to have first courage to be aware of these qualities and to try them out, not just once, but every day. The improvement will come over time with how well they use these qualities. But, they cannot improve these qualities if they are not first aware about them and then try them daily.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Feeling overwhelmed is part of life. When I feel overwhelmed, I tend to go for a walk and to free my mind from all the negative stress that comes out as a result of feeling overwhelmed. I indulge myself with a walk and I talk to myself positively. I also clear my mind from all the negativity. I try to reset my mind so that I can feel supercharged again.

My number one advice is to know yourself first. If you know yourself, you can know best what would work for you best to overcome feeling overwhelmed. As Aristotle mentioned: “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”. Going for a walk works for me because it is a strategy that generated me positive results, but it does not mean it will work for you because we are different. And, it is this difference that adds more perspectives to our life stories.
