Meet Queen Bassey

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Queen Bassey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Queen, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Honestly this question is amazing because my self esteem developed out of nowhere with no warning whatsoever. I found myself walking with my shoulders back and head held high more often and being more confident in my speech and all round presence. I can truthfully say it was all God and prayer that created this confidence and self esteem in me today.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hello! So I am a makeup artist and influencer. I’ve been doing makeup for about six years now. It’s been an exciting experience whether it be traveling out of my town or just meet amazing people! I think the most exciting part of what I do is watching my clients light up after seeing their faces. Especially those who don’t do makeup on a regular basis. I love to make my clients see themselves in a new light that doesn’t hide their beauty but enhances it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back I think the three skills that I acquired that were most impactful were always treat the client with upmost care, make the client feel comfortable and safe and most importantly grant an experience that is remembered positively.
Any advice I could give would honestly be always look for ways to stand out and create an environment that makes people want to come back! Do not give up when things get slow or bookings don’t work out. Keep moving forward and allow your work to speak.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Whenever Im overwhelmed or just plain stressed out I tend to turn it all off! What I mean by this is I simply turn off all distractions or “triggers” and give my mind a break. No phone , tv, laptop! I just close the door and remain in silence for sometime and in a way I reboot or start over.
