We were lucky to catch up with Shartavia Denise recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shartavia, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
At first, I didn’t even know it had a name—I just thought I wasn’t good enough. Every time someone complimented my work or booked me, I’d lowkey question if I was really that girl or if they just didn’t know better options. Crazy, right? But imposter syndrome had me playing small in rooms I prayed to be in.
What helped me overcome it wasn’t a single moment—it was a mindset shift. I had to stop looking at other people’s success as competition and start seeing it as proof that it’s possible. I reminded myself: you’re not lucky, you’re prepared. You’ve done the work. You’ve poured into your craft. You deserve to be here.
And every time I felt that self-doubt creeping back in, I did two things:
1. Revisited my “receipts” (client testimonials, photos of my growth, etc.)
2. Spoke life over myself—even if I had to say it out loud in the mirror.
Imposter syndrome didn’t disappear overnight, but the more I showed up as me, the more I realized there’s power in just being authentic. That’s what people connect to. And now? I walk in every room like it was already mine.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the founder of Bawsey Beauty Empire, a beauty brand rooted in making women feel seen, celebrated, and unstoppable—one beat at a time. What started as me doing makeup out of love and in honor of my late grandmother, Mary B, has grown into something so much bigger than I ever imagined. Now, I offer makeup services, digital beauty products, and educational resources for aspiring MUAs and everyday women who just want to feel confident in their own skin.
What makes Bawsey Beauty Empire so special is the experience. My clients don’t just come to get their makeup done—they come to feel like that girl. I pride myself on creating a warm, welcoming space filled with good vibes, personalized glam, and genuine connection.
Right now, I’m expanding deeper into the digital world—launching eBooks, online classes, and digital guides for makeup lovers and beginner MUAs. I’ve also created a VIP program and am working toward building a full beauty education platform.
Everything I do is rooted in empowering women, especially moms and dreamers, to show up as the best version of themselves—boldly, beautifully, and unapologetically.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three most impactful things that helped me build Bawsey Beauty Empire were consistency, confidence, and connection.
Consistency is what kept me growing, even when things were slow. You won’t always feel motivated, but showing up even on the off days builds momentum. I didn’t go viral overnight. I stayed consistent with my craft, my branding, and how I showed up for my clients—and that’s what built trust.
Confidence was something I had to develop. I wasn’t always the most confident, especially when I felt like I didn’t “fit” the typical MUA mold. But once I started embracing my style, my energy, and my way of doing things, everything changed. Confidence attracts clients, opportunities, and abundance.
Connection was the game changer. I built real relationships with my audience and my clients. I treat them like homegirls, not just transactions. People remember how you made them feel, and that’s what creates loyalty.
If you’re just getting started, focus on mastering your skills, stay consistent even when nobody’s clapping, and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through your brand. That’s your superpower.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely—I’m always open to meaningful partnerships and creative collaborations! I’m especially interested in working with photographers, videographers, content creators, beauty brands, lifestyle influencers, and women-centered communities. Whether it’s for styled shoots, brand campaigns, beauty events, or digital product collaborations—I love building with people who align with my energy, values, and vision.
I’m all about collaborations that feel good, look good, and do good—ones that pour into women, moms, and entrepreneurs like myself.
If you feel like we could create magic together, I’d love to connect! The best way to reach me is through email at [email protected] or via Instagram @bawseybeautyempire.
Let’s make beauty, impact, and bags together.
