Meet Shannon Godek

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shannon Godek a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shannon, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

At a very young age the importance of giving back was taught to my sister and I. We were always very involved in our community and there to lend a helping hand. I find it very rewarding to be able to share my talent with others whether it be with sponsoring an event or helping others succeed by providing insight or sharing the obstacles I have overcome to get where I am today. I firmly believe that we should treat others as we wish to be treated.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Basic Dough is a bakery that is focused on the iconic desserts we all love. It’s all about the chocolate chip cookie you’ll never forget, the cupcake that will leave you wanting more and a cinnamon roll that will forever change your life.

The goal I had when I started Basic Dough was to offer those 3 staples in superior quality. I spent countless hours perfecting my chocolate chip cookie, which is truly where it really started. My goal is to always provide the freshest from scratch treats while displaying a simple elegance in their presentation.

As of now I am focused on continuing to grow. I have some big plans and hope to share them soon!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe being steadfast, disciplined and understanding the science behind baking has allowed me to get where I am today. Anyone can pick up a cook book and follow a recipe but it takes a certain knowledge and understanding to create something truly unforgettable.

If I had any advice to give I would say to follow your own unique path. Find something that truly sets you apart and pour your heart and soul into it.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed I try to take a step back and collect myself. It’s important to take time to yourself and to not get lost. I take time to reflect on where I started and where I am now. I thank god for blessing me with success and the work ethic to overcome my obstacles.
