Meet Anzal Khan

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anzal Khan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anzal below.

Anzal, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Honestly, it took time, and a lot of unlearning. I used to think confidence meant being loud, or always knowing what to say. But for me, it started with small, quiet moments. Like telling myself I was good enough to charge for my work. Or standing my ground when people questioned my worth, whether in my personal life or as a creative.

A lot of my self-esteem came from hitting low points and realizing I still had my back, and am still alive and well. I’ve been through things that forced me to rebuild, emotionally, professionally, even spiritually. And each time I put myself back together, I came back stronger. Not because I had it all figured out, but because I knew I couldn’t let fear lead the way.

Confidence now looks like trusting my eye as an artist, not over-explaining myself, and allowing people to see me as I am, flaws, growth, and all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a freelance makeup artist and a healthcare professional based in St. Louis. My current focus is building a beauty brand that feels elevated, personal, and welcoming to everyone. Growing up, I didn’t see many Pakistani or Desi makeup artists in my city, and that stuck with me. It made me want to fill that gap, not just to represent my own community, but to create a space where anyone, from any background, could feel beautiful, seen, and cared for.

My journey started with practicing makeup on women in my family, working in retail beauty, and slowly building my own client base. Today, I specialize in soft glam, bridal, and event looks, and I truly believe in enhancing natural features rather than masking them. My style leans clean, minimalistic, and luxe, and I love helping people feel like the best version of themselves, especially during their most special moments.

Right now, I’m working on expanding my reach beyond St. Louis, connecting with more clients throughout the Midwest, and refining the experience I offer. I’m also looking forward to stepping into collaborations and partnerships in the future, with brands and creatives that align with my aesthetic and values.

More than anything, I want people to know that my chair is a judgment-free zone, whether you’re getting ready for your wedding day, a photoshoot, or just want to feel like you again. There’s room for everyone in my version of beauty.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, humility, and patience.

Resilience because this path hasn’t been easy. Balancing a full-time job in healthcare, graduate school, and freelance makeup taught me how to keep going even when things felt overwhelming. I’ve learned that discipline carries you on the days motivation doesn’t.

Humility because I truly believe in taking constructive criticism and learning from it. I don’t pretend to know it all, I’ve always been open to feedback, whether it’s from clients, mentors, or even my own reflections. That mindset helped me grow faster and become more confident in my craft.

And patience, because nothing good happens overnight. I’ve had to trust that if I kept putting in the work, showing up consistently, and staying aligned with my values, things would fall into place. And they have, slowly but surely.

Start with what you have. Don’t wait for the “perfect kit” or the ideal circumstances. Just begin. Be consistent, stay humble enough to keep learning, and protect your passion, because there will be days where you’ll question everything. But if you lead with intention and stay rooted in your why, your work will speak for itself.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I’m definitely open to partnering and collaborating, especially with individuals or brands who value authenticity, artistry, and intentional beauty. I’m particularly interested in working with creatives, photographers, and event planners who align with a clean, minimalistic, and luxe aesthetic. I’d also love to connect with beauty brands that prioritize inclusivity and high-performance products.

Whether it’s styled shoots, creative campaigns, or brand partnerships, I’m excited to build meaningful collaborations that feel aligned and mutually inspiring.
