Meet David Emenheiser

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Emenheiser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

David, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose while healing.
For 20 years, addiction ruled my life, stealing joy, purpose, and hope. But in the depths of that pain, during the journey of healing, I discovered something unexpected—photography. Or maybe, photography found me. I believe God gave me this gift not just as a creative outlet, but as a form of therapy—an instrument of grace that helped me see beauty again, both in the world and within myself. What began as a personal escape has become my passion, my purpose, and my way of sharing light with others. Today, through every frame I capture, I celebrate freedom, faith, and the power of redemption.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I founded David Joseph Photo in 2019 with the encouragement of my wife Darlene. What began as a passion for landscape photography quickly evolved as my skills grew—and so did my clientele. Today, I’m proud to be the official photographer for the Antelope Valley Fair and Event Center, and I’ve had the privilege of working extensively with both the City of Palmdale and the City of Lancaster. While I specialize in event and night photography, I’ve recently found a growing passion for portrait work.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Shoot often , Shoot a variety of styles, and get to know your camera .. I. The beginning I shot so many different things from airplanes to sports to wildlife it just gives you the ability to really learn your equipment

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents ever did was pray for me—constantly. As I’ve mentioned before, I was a mess for about 20 years, and I can only imagine the pain and worry they went through. But even through the tough love, they never stopped praying that one day I would become the person God created me to be.
