Meet Shayna Wadlington

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shayna Wadlington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Shayna with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I developed my strong work ethic by watching my mom work tirelessly to provide for our family. She always put in the effort, no matter how challenging things got, and that determination inspired me. Over time, I picked up her habits, pushing through obstacles, and taking pride in doing things well. Her example taught me the value of hard work and shaped how I approach everything I do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a passionate cosmetologist offering a range of services including hair extensions, hair color, and cuts. What I love most about my job is the opportunity to connect with so many different people each day. Every client brings a new story, and being able to not only talk with them but also help them feel beautiful and confident is what makes this career so fulfilling. Whether it’s a fresh haircut or a bold new color, I take pride in making sure every person leaves my chair feeling their best. I’m also excited to be expanding my services soon to include nails, so my clients can enjoy a full beauty experience all in one place.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

As a cosmetologist, creativity, communication, and technical skill are key. You need an eye for detail to create styles that suit each client, strong people skills to build trust, and solid technical knowledge to deliver safe, high-quality results. For anyone just starting out, stay open to learning, practice as much as you can, and never stop improving your craft. Building confidence takes time, but passion and consistency will take you far in this industry.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

One of the most impactful things my parents have done for me is consistently support and encourage me. Knowing they believe in me has given me the confidence to chase my goals and push through challenges. My mom, especially, showed me what hard work looks like, and that example shaped my own work ethic. Their love, guidance, and the values they taught me have had a huge influence on the person I am today.
