Meet Katris Wright

We were lucky to catch up with Katris Wright recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Katris, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?

I believe creativity requires space and vision.
I remember when I first started encountering the ability to see vision and create from a place of freedom, it was such a rush! This rush of energy and excitement kept me up at night and it definitely kept me feeling activated. So, when I felt that first blockage or creative block I felt confused.

Like…”who turned the light off” haha

At that moment when the “lights” went off, I had no direction, no feeling of excitement and definitely not an ounce of confidence that I could even complete the task at hand!

So, I thought to myself “what should I do”? And just as we creatives do…I started moving around. I couldn’t be still for nothing although I didn’t really feel focused…I just kept moving around searching for something to help me get through the blockage. Then finally I ended up driving to a nice hotel lobby because I knew I had get up and get out because I felt crowed inside, I needed space to create. But not just any atmosphere or space, an atmosphere and space that had vision!

Yup, that day I shifted my creative focus because I found out that the key to getting unstuck and overcoming the creative block was to be inspired in a new space and to experience another level of vision.

That day in the lobby of that 5 star hotel…

I felt and smelled the luxury decor. I experienced the quality of services and I envisioned myself being better, doing better and therefore I produced better quality results.

Listen, blockage only happens when you’ve stretched yourself and reached your capacity.

Once you realize the reason ‘why’ blockage happens, it’s time to level up to the next level of creativity! Just remember it will require a NEW space and NEW vision for more inspiration flow.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My story has always been about my faith in God, first and foremost!

It’s been such an amazing journey where faith, in God and the gifts and talents that He has given me has walked me into my next exciting chapter. As a talent coach~ I’m really focusing on helping talents develop their skills in a more creative and transformative way through simply being themselves!

Yup, I learned the hard way!

When I started in this industry there was always a script for me to follow. Of course, I tried but I couldn’t stay on subject nor read what I wrote. lol

After kinda getting through a few rough radio interview moments, I decided that I would just relax more and become more organic (which by the way, organic was a big new word for us back in 2017). I allowed myself to flow and guess what!?My audience and followers loved it to my surprise lol. I would feel so embarrassed at times (and still do at times) until I saw me for me! My good, bad, strengths and weaknesses. That process produced confidence within which allowed me to display and discover my style… my flavor and my personality.

The bible teaches that your gift will make room for you.
As the voice behind the nationally syndicated Pillow Talks and the visionary coach guiding the next wave of media talent, I learned to blend my heart, hustle, and high-level execution to empower others to shine on and off the mic and stages.

Whether I’m mentoring talent, hosting red carpet exclusives, or launching entrepreneurial ventures like The Media Playbook and Toddler Teller, all of my work is driven by faith and fueled by creativity,

There is definitely a high vibe momentum behind the scene that’s allowing my brand to be more seen and actively involved in the .industry.

I’m truly enjoying collaborating with others in media, fashion and entertainment industry!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

When I think about my journey. The three qualities that were most impactful for me was learning to have purposed driven confidence, creative leadership ability and healthy internal vision.

Purpose driven confidence is essential to staying true to yourself and your purpose. My faith in God reminds me of how there is a bigger plan for me to use my gifts to inspire others, I believe that when you understand that purpose lives within you, you will continue to seek it out and become more skilled. Which leads me to accepting my gift of creativity which took place later than earlier in my life.

Developing the skills to create, produce and execute new projects is a continuous process. I learned to become the leader of my own ideas and to build upon what inspires me, what motivates me and what makes me feel the most alive and aligned to my purpose.

Now, I’m going to be honest. There have been many opportunities where I could not find any creative juices within me.

Like.,, I wanted to be involved with the projects but nothing would come out! And this leads me to the final quality that was most impactful, Which is being skilled in having, seeing and understanding how to move forward with vision.

Having a healthy internal vision is key.

Whew!

Without a vision, you get stuck, without a healthy vision, you get stuck and you don’t see yourself or others properly, When you have a vision you don’t just see what’s in front of you,~you see what can be.

Your gift for seeing potential in people, projects, and platforms will allow you to build brands, birth new ideas, and create lasting impact and relationships in the entertainment industry!

My advice is to keep evolving and never stay stuck! You have a purpose, creativity and vision that will lead you if you learn to trust it.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Good question.

The challenge with being creative content creator and media person is that you are always getting downloads! lol

It’s kinda weird because when you want to rest the ideas may interfere with your sleep schedule. So, I’m learning how to capture the ideas but release the thoughts once I have a good idea of the vision.

I’m very proud of myself in this season for working out more consistently and building muscles. Adding this routine to my life helps me process and unpack the downloads without feeling overwhelmed.

I’m truly feeling like an overcomer today!
