We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Cook a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My mom, honestly, without her and her generosity, I probably wouldn’t have any at all. She has shown me that character trait, and it has never left me at all!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Mikey Cook, also known as M.A.D.C.J – a creative force navigating the intersections of music, storytelling, and digital content. My work is all about turning life’s rawest moments into art that resonates. Whether it’s through cinematic music that captures the highs and lows of the past few years or relatable, honest content that connects with people navigating their late 20s and 30s, my goal is to create experiences that feel like a mirror – reflecting our shared struggles, growth, and those “I thought it was just me” moments.
Right now, I’m gearing up to release a new EP that serves as the precursor to my next album – a project that dives deep into themes of resilience, betrayal, and reclaiming your power. The lead single, Crash Out, is a raw, unapologetic anthem that’s about shedding the old and stepping fully into your truth, with a sound that’s cinematic and polished yet undeniably real.
Beyond music, I’m also focused on expanding my content series, Giving You Your Flowers, where I spotlight creators and storytellers who are out here making waves and leaving their mark. And as always, I’m building my brand around authenticity – staying true to my journey while creating space for others to do the same.
There’s more in the works, but for now, I’m just embracing the process, putting my all into every project, and letting the art speak for itself. Stay tuned.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been game-changers for me are resilience, authenticity, and storytelling.
Resilience has been my backbone – the ability to keep pushing forward even when life feels like it’s hitting you from all angles. It’s what kept me going when I lost my dad, got laid off, and had to rebuild myself from the ground up. My advice? Embrace the setbacks. They’re not the end of your story – they’re just the plot twists that make your journey that much more powerful.
Authenticity is everything. In a world full of highlight reels and curated feeds, staying true to who you are is the real flex. People connect with what’s real – the struggles, the messy middle, the growth. If you’re just starting out, focus on finding your voice and let that be your compass. Don’t try to mimic anyone else’s vibe – what makes you different is what will make you unforgettable.
Lastly, storytelling – it’s the glue that holds it all together. Whether it’s through music, content, or just how you show up online, the way you tell your story can turn a moment into a movement. Practice sharing your experiences in a way that’s raw, relatable, and real. Trust me, your story is more powerful than you think.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Artist’s Way, I have not even finished it yet, and starting it has already changed and affected my life for the better.
