Meet Mickey Stephens

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mickey Stephens. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mickey below.

Hi Mickey , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

I would say my generosity comes all the people God placed in my that paid for the scholarships that sent me to the YMCA, open the doors to help me get jobs, people allowing me to work when I started my businesses by and all the people who picked me up, even when it was my own mistakes that caused me to stumble. I’ve never considered myself a pick yourself up by the bootstraps success story because God has put too many people in my life that has helped me carry the load.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The thing I love doing the most is running the nonprofit God allowed Me to start and operator. It’s called Our Community Cupboards. We try to feed people, pray with people and connect them with resources to become self-sufficient. I’ve owned an operated Lawn Care business for almost 20 years called Community Cutters. I am co-owner of a fire safety company called Palmetto State fire and safety. We do fire extinguishers and other services for businesses and homeowners.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three things that were most impactful for me are Having a community that cares to see you succeed, Not being afraid to fail forward and try to go after your dreams, And being willing to take the advice of the people who are Already successful in the industry or space that you’re trying to be grow in. My advice is don’t be afraid of failure. You can fail many times and still reach your goals or exceed them by taking action Once you have made a plan. The first plan may not be successful, but what you learn from it may propel you to a level that you never thought was achievable. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, Ask for advice, Or ask for a spot at the table. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take and the And getting told no is not the end of the world. It may just be a no at the moment or the no That keeps you on your journey to The person God has intended to say yes.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m looking to partner with people in the community that are willing to put their time, talent, and treasures into helping improve peoples lives. We are looking for people who want to change the landscape of the communities around them by meeting the needs however small or big. We want to work with people and various areas of expertise And resources that when put together Complete a puzzle that shows what true community love looks like! We Currently Partner with groups and people who help feed clothes house, and many other resources for individuals in need. The The skills jobs and hobbies we have can be used to serve those around us so anyone willing to serve if someone we want to partner with.
