Meet Sidiqat Abdulkareem

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sidiqat Abdulkareem. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sidiqat, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I’m an immigrant and I got my resilience from the fact that I came to this country to be successful. Therefore, If I fail, then I have to take a rest and try again, maybe using a different approach, but failure is definitely not in my dictionary. That’s where my resilience is from. I have a bunch of people looking up to me and that includes my sisters and parents.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an event decorator and I do focal point or full decorating for my clients. My love for decorating started when I was planning my wedding. I wanted everything to be perfect. Then my love for event decorating re-ignited when I was planning my daughter’s birthday party. So I started learning on my own time. The first client that I got outside of friends and family wanted to incorporate flowers and balloons. I didn’t think it was perfect, but she loved it that she tipped me big. What I find most exciting about the job is the look of satisfaction and joy on the faces of my clients when they see the decor that I have created for them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The education and human relations skills that I possess has helped me immensely in customer relations with my clients. This has helped me to retain some of them. They have not only followed and continued to support me on social media, they have also booked me multiple times. Another skill that I find useful and very interesting is the ability to drive a semi truck or mini van. This skill was brought into my event decorating business from a previous job that I had which required me to drive a disability accessible van. Now, I can rent a Uhaul van or truck and drive to any event I have if the event requires me to do so.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am open to collaborating with event planners and event decorators. I am also open to working with corporate organization. I can be reached via email or my direct message on Instagram. My email address is grandeureventsanddecor@gmail.com
