We were lucky to catch up with Edward Black recently and have shared our conversation below.
Edward, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
Where does #iamedwardblack get his generosity from? Well this a very deep question to me so allow me to go in depth please? Generosity is such a priceless gift and it to me, it means more than just one thing. Respect, consideration, kindness, empathy and many more admirable qualities are all part of what makes being genuinely generous worth more than being rich to me.
Having been on both of ends of the giving and receiving spectrum, I have found that when people are overlooked and myself included, we often begin to feel invisible. I can only speak for myself when I express that this has definitely happened to me on more than several occasions and I began to let it affect myself self-esteem, so much so that I began to doubt my worth as an individual.
Being an already sensitive soul, many ordinary things that happen to me on a daily have such a profound negative or positive impact on my existence. It is near impossible for me to ignore or even witness this happening to others around me. This ignites a feeling of wanting to protect anyone else from experiencing the very pains of being overlooked, not considered and those that are a mere after-thought.
The empath embedded in my soul tells me to give because you have gone without, compliment because you would have liked someone to compliment you, gift someone a present that shows you have been showing up and paying attention.
To say “hello” to (A) stranger on the street and greet them with a smile. Giving to others because you too know what it is like to be given nothing. Generosity is life-changer. You never know what any one individual is going through personally at any given time. I have been saved by mere acts of kindness, inclusivity and a multitude of generosity. It feels good to be SEEN, appreciated and acknowledged. It also feels even greater to be able to be that for someone else too. Just because.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Acting, modeling, rapping, singing, filming and creating are apart of my everyday shenanigans. There is not one artistic avenue that I have not had my hands, face and feet in. I just can’t seem to get enough of “it”! My Brand: #iamedwardblack is all inclusive, including my audience as well. I would like to be honest and clear when expressing that is The Most HIGH who has gifted and blessed me with as many talents and skills as he/she has so gratefully done.
Having been gifted with success in all of my most passionate endeavors. From Modeling to releasing and performing music independently as well as acting, writing and producing my own content or collaborative efforts; My Brand is unique, multifaceted and insatiable.
This past year has allowed me to flex my graphic design my muscles in the world of the horror film. Having created a few visual reinterpretations for MJP_POV, created by Mark J. Parker: Film producer, Acting Coach, Writer, Casting PLUS! He has released some pretty entertaining fan-fiction films that add their very own “lore” to the Wes Craven produced Film Franchise, Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer; both written by Kevin Williamson. His Instagram @mjp_pov is loaded with all of his finest works, including his award winning fan-films. Pleasure working with you Mark.
Crafting brand new music for musical project that I have been working on for the past 3 years now, slowly and surly. This go-around has been quit tedious as I have been teaching myself how to craft my very own beats and instrumentals from the various music studio apps like band lab and (SOUNDATION) to create a sound equivalent to my Phvck Up the Bass predecessor, which is independently released to all major streaming platforms, the chopped and screwed version is available as well.
It has been phenomenal and satisfying not only learning how to craft Instrumentals, but write new lyrics as well. My creative process involves a vast amount of demos, finished and unfinished songs. Ideas are constant so I make sure to be ready to document anything I can before the magic is no more.
I will be self-recording my newest project and have also researched, practiced and continue to find the most crisp and clear methods to record, mix and master my very own tracks. I would like to begin recording in the next several months so I can begin releasing new rap/hip-hop/pop music to the streaming universe.
Currently I am manifesting more involvement with the lovely, all inclusive – Saint Beauty (https://www.saintbeauty.com/). Friends before we ever even worked together professionally, Orhe Onomake; 1/3 of Saint Beauty, have maintained a consistent and mutual friendship that extends our working relationship. She and her sister have been an actual Saint to me.
Not only is she, her sister and Mother Women of their Worth, they are Women of their Word. I have had the best professional and personal experiences and relationships with them! They have treated a creative as they are supposed to be treated and for this I am forever thankful to them and for them. My Second Biggest Break is because of these three Women right here and The Most HIGH along with Jesus – HALLELUJAH!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I think these three qualities, skills or areas of knowledge that were most impactful during my personal journey are: Resilience, Inderstanding and Understanding as well as personal faith and endurance. More than three, and apologize but I just couldn’t help myself. Resilience is very impactful because this journey is one oft’ traveled down alone. There is no handbook, manual or magic word to succeed in any endeavor, goal or vision. Being able to recover from the world of rejection, being told no or not being accepted and misunderstood. I can not explain and express how many failures it takes before you win. Being self-aware is also pivotal because you must realize “you are not enough” and not being casted or getting the views you hoped does not make or break you.
This is apart of “inderstanding” – an internal knowing that your value is not measured in the detours encountered and many “rejections” faced. It is very important to create from a place of passion, if it feels like work and you don’t make as much as you hoped financially causing you to give up, use that as motivation to fuel yourself and mindset that someone out there in this world or universe will literally tell you “that’s the ONE I need and was looking for.
This is a gift and I have personally experienced this on several miraculous occasions during my work and time on set. Understand that putting yourself out there is beneficial whether you are accepted or not. You will NEVER know unless you try and understand and inderstand that I must show up and be present and genuine in my pursuits to success in the world of art, creativity and entertainment.
Faith is detrimental because with any journey, we all believe it will work out for the best. Adding Faith to power unknown will help you navigate the journey you chose because you will need something to fall back on and there is honestly no better feeling than believing in something that gives you drive, motivation, grace and abundance. No man or women can achieve greatness on their own. It takes an unseen force of love and sincerity to protect and nurture during whatever trials encountered.
My faith is spirtiual and has evolved due to me vulnerable and knowing that whatever created all of US, has a love and plan for me unmatched and if I just believe with faith, follow with no blame and endure when it’s unbearable, my failure is transmutted into success and gratefulness sets in, creating a habitual and mutually satisfying relationship with The Creator.
