We were lucky to catch up with Rebecca Gordon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I was born in New York City and had a fascination with the sky from an early age—checking out children’s astronomy books from the library and imagining all stars were suns with planets around them. My father was an anthropologist, so we lived in various countries including West Africa, South America, and Europe. No matter where we were, I always looked to the sky and was constantly asking questions about planets, time and space. At 14, I found astrology through the bookshelf of a neighbor whose kids I was babysitting—and it was like everything I loved—symbolism, psychology, archetypes, astronomy all together. The neighbor later became my stepmother and taught me to read charts, not through taxonomy but through lived conversation.
I began reading charts for friends and family through high school under her mentorship. My skeptical Virgo nature led me to research astrology’ s long history, and I learned how it had been practiced for thousands of years. So I pretty much lived and breathed astrology everyday and had no idea it could be a career until one day when I was 24 (on a Jupiter return). I decided to attend a large astrology conference. This was a huge turning point as I was expecting to meet peers, though instead I was the only 24 year old and everyone was at least 50 there. This had me thinking – what will happen if this lineage of astrology does not get passed on and why am I the only young person in the room? That was 2004 and that is when I decided to open up a welcoming astrology school in NYC for anyone who is curious to learn. I didn’t know everything, though I told the students that I will continue to teach as I continue to learn. This is still my commitment to this day.
There was ‘Ethics and Consulting skills’ training at that conference which I immediately signed up for. And then a fateful meeting happened. I met my mentor, Susan Miller, who simply asked what I was doing there. I froze as I was just waking up to the fact that astrology can be a career (not just a hobby) and she is asking me who I am. I told her about my day job at the art gallery (which was not the answer she wanted). She said something like “what if I’m here to grant you your wish – you need to state who you are and what you desire. What if I am here to help”. She did just that and as it turned out we were neighbors in NYC. Fast forward – I met her daily to work on star charts as she showed me the ropes of running a business of astrology, writing horoscopes, and reading charts.
Within a few months I quit my day job, within half a year I was giving a talk for 70 people at Alex Greys Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (a Chelsea art gallery), and within a year I was writing for magazines, reading charts at events and managing a rapidly growing clientele. I opened the doors to my school that year too, which was five of us sitting around a wooden table with low lights every Sunday evening in an old holistic center in Soho. Now we have grown to thousands of students across the globe and there are multiple teachers, though I still see students weekly.
One of my early observations at that seminal conference was also that astrology was seeming self-referential and it seemed that many of the astrologers felt ostracized from their communities. They were hiding their passion for astrology because they would get made fun of or exiled. This bothered me to the point that I made it a mission to turn astrology into an interdisciplinary practice that is sought after. Today I give astrology talks and host team building events with Meta, Google, NYU, and Aman Hotels to name a few, using astrology to bring a sense of purpose and meaning to our individual lives, to highlight relational skills, career strengths, and to breed compassion for others.
At age 24, my purpose was to democratize astrology and 20 years later that has been done (certainly there were other key figures to help), and I am back to the drawing board on mission and purpose. Now I am focused on merging astrology with systems thinking, new models of governance and ecology. Lately I’ve been presenting on astrology and our planetary future as well as the evolution of consciousness. Astrology may simply be here to show us the interconnected web of all life. Space and soul are both vast, so the path of astrology is one of endless curiosity and discovery.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As an astrologer, I am here to connect you with your divine blueprint that is called your birth chart. It is your unique sky map and it’s the program that your subconscious broadcasts out to the world each minute of your entire life. Encoded in this map are your natural talents, challenges, love stories, hidden gifts and so much more. The more we turn on the lights inside and become aware of our map, the more aligned your life becomes. When we are unaware of our radio station that is broadcasting, life can feel like a series of misadventures or blaming external events. When the internal lights are on and you are navigating with your map in hand, roads will open at the right time and when they do not, you will understand why.
Knowing yourself is key. Though at some point, we will want to also understand our karmic cycles, yearly themes, and how the changing skies impact our own life. I help my clients align with the natural cycles as well as to embody the full potential of their own blueprint. From a young age, I worked with CEO’s and business owners, helping them to choose an ideal launch date or to set themselves up for success in the year ahead. These sessions later morphed into one of our signature courses called ‘Astrology for Entrepreneurs’. I teach a suite of classes year round on topics such as love, health, and our flagship certification track where students graduate with a certificate and can often become thriving professional astrologers in the world.
Over the last decade, I’ve been hosting team building events, keynotes for companies and presenting interactive workshops for thought leaders. I’m now working on a book that will draw from much of this work where we deep dive into the astrology of finding your career path and purpose using astrology.
Astrology apps are great, though I had always wanted the astrological best days as well as times to avoid in my actual google calendar. So we created STARSYNC, a digital astrology calendar that integrates seamlessly with your Google Calendar or iCal.
Also I have a retreat coming up in October 2025 called The birth of Venus in Scotland.

If you have the curiosity to learn astrology or become a professional astrologer, this is a beautiful path and the world needs more healers and guides in this time. There is room for you and our school fosters a community which lifts up the voices of emerging astrologers in the world. Our signature Beginners and Intermediate astrology Classes have been running for 20 years now and thousands of astrologers have come through our school. If you are on our mailing list, there will be an invite to a free webinar about every six weeks.
And if you want to meet monthly on Zoom and get a look at what’s coming up, I’d invite you to join the Luminary League community. In this group, we look at the current skies, cosmic trends, and set intentions based on the month ahead with an occasional look at member charts.
Overall, I feel everyone should have access to the language of our skies. When you work with astrology, you begin to see yourself as part of a larger ecosystem and that’s when the magic happens.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Relationship building: Hands down, everything is based on relationships in our world, especially business. Early on, I feel it’s important to meet all the kinds of characters in your industry and learn about them. If you resonate with someone or admire them, see how you can help them, work with them, and perhaps mentor with them. There’s a few key people early on who took me under their wing and I did all of the above.
Hiring: Spend a long time finding your ideal candidate as this is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. They may be your ride or die for a decade or longer if you choose well. Here, we have a process that lasts around 2-3 months and it consists of 10 min. vibe checks, a few interviews, Strengthsfinder tests, and on-the-job tests. There’s so much to consider and this is an area where expertise and patience will pay off. Do not just hire someone cause you think they are cool or you like them. If you do not know the kinds of questions to ask or what you need to hire for, then I would learn about your astrology ecosystem. Also, engage people who can help you with these interviews in HR and Operations to audit your business needs and help you to create the right set of questions. PS… Try not to hire during a Mercury retrograde ; ). Lastly, I feel we need to hire before we think we are ready and always have a couple candidates close. You never know when growth will happen and chance favors the prepared. Put the ask out in the world / hiring websites, ask for referrals and have a rigorous process here – you will find your ideal person.
Knowing Your Astrology for Business: We all are born with a unique genius that nobody else has. We are also not best suited to be doing certain tasks in our business. I see entrepreneurs trying to do everything and wasting time especially on the things they are not great at – sometimes this happens for years before they release the grip and then pathways of success open. It’s worth it to assess your acumen on different tasks and choose wisely to hire for what is missing in your chart. Fill in the gaps. For example some things you may be highly skilled at, though they take all your energy and are quite draining. And other tasks which you are also proficient in will leave you feeling energy-rich after doing them. Take note of these things when deciding what roles you will do. This is mainly based on what I call your astrology ecosystem / your balance sheet of elements (fire, earth, air and water) and the story it tells.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m putting out a call-out for women thought leaders of our time (specifically in areas of ecology, governance, AI, the evolution of consciousness, futurism and overall systems thinking.) As I am speaking into the astrology of these times on various platforms, I feel it important for our communities to be interdisciplinary and connected. At this crucial turning point in history, we will all benefit from greater wisdom sharing and cross pollination. On the practical level, for now I’m thinking that this will look like an online symposium where there’s a Zoom event with different speakers and facilitators monthly for an entire year. There may be a community group and in-person events for those who desire.
In this moment of rare astrology and collapse, I feel the call to reimagine systems together, create from a new set of values, and cultivate relationships that are in alignment in this moment. In the spirit of new paradigm feminine leaders, I’m launching the first installation retreat called ‘The Birth of Venus’ in Scotland, though I will be on the look-out for other co-facilitators for the subsequent installations.
The sky is a mirror of the times, and with this unique configuration of outer planets leaving Pisces and entering Aries, perhaps times have never been more fertile for a brand new road to walk.
