Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mike Stanko. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Mike, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Whenever possible, I always look for the bright side of any situation. I’ve been pretty fortunate to have led a pretty happy life and hopefully that will continue. But, as we all know, life can change at any time, so I’m thankful every day for what I have.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been painting for over 40 years, and enjoy the whole process as much now as when I started. I love coming up with new ideas; I love the decisions I make for each painting, the subject, colors, intensity, etc. The art I make seems to make people happy, and being featured many times on magazine and album covers, TV, etc., just adds ongoing excitement to the whole process. I think the “Stanko” brand has served me well!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three that stand out are to maintain a good work ethic: if you love it, just do it with passion.
Never be afraid of going outside your box, and never worry what other people might think…. follow your own ideas and be true to them.
Finally, develop a thick skin. Not everybody is going to like your work: Just accept that and never let that get you down!
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I would do everything I do today, maybe just more of it, living my best life with my favorite person in the world, my wife Karen. And I wouldn’t worry about money: As a foodie, I’d love to travel and eat at the best food establishments in the world! But of course I’d keep painting, while surrounding myself with family and friends, and love my way to the end.
