We were lucky to catch up with Andrew Cary recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrew, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism is directly tied to my decision to focus on trusting God, making sure my side of the street is clean and serving others. This combination of faith and service provided the framework where all other opportunities have unfolded.
By having a heart of service, I have been able to identify problems and reach solutions. This has been realized in business, personal affairs and serving the broader community.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My story is quite simple: I grew up in a wonderful, loving family noted for faith and education being core personal and families values. So, it was certainly not planned that I would become a recovering alchoholic at age 24. From that point on, my life has become simplied and focused.
First and foremost, I am not a religious fanatic but simply see my personal faith as my stronghold that empowers me to wake up, see the world through positive, hopeful and loving lens. With that said, I have used my education, experiences and business acumen to work in public education, non-profit and global edtech sales. Throughout all these experiences I have made sure that one role and function built on the next.
Consequentially, I have served as a public education multilingual educator and administrator, a non profit executive director and board member and a global strategist mostly in education and education technology.
During each stage of personal and professional growth, I have kept the heart of service as part of my life routine. When challenges in personal life or business occur, it is always best to focus on serving others to free one from stress and feel better about our own lot.
Finally, after careful consideration and relationship building, I Co-Founded and became CEO of SNAAP Transportation. SNAAP is the first of its kind in the world sustainable alternative to personal rapid transit. In collaboration with my CoFounders daugher, we established the company in 2020, assembled the team, raise the funds and have an operating prototype that is set to change the form of personal transportation worldwide.
Embedded in the business model of SNAAP is a unique design for micromanufacturing, mini-franchising (licensing) and micro-distrobution (logistics).
Between SNAAP Transportation, education/edtech consulting and community service, my life is active and full.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
This might be short or even curt sounding but my 3 qualities that I would rely on today: study, remain teachable and maintain your faith.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
As an avid reader, there are too many books to attempt to single anyone one, two or three most impactful. Certainly, the Bible would be my anchor. Again, my faith is quiet and mine. It is how I start andend my day.
The second book that has been really impactful is Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott. If you do not understand the timing and impact of the first edition and the first few pages, you will miss it. No, I am not going to tell you – buy the book and read.
Finally, while I would love to say the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous would be my third title, I will simple encourage people to read pages 1-164. The authors shed light on the disease of alcoholism but also a great deal on self awareness and personal choice.
Having said that, Blanchards One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey was a timely and important read. Covey’s Habits and a few others along the same vein have been worthy reads and take up shelf space.
