We recently connected with Lee Evans Lee and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lee Evans, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
By continuously trying new things and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone in all areas of life—socially, athletically, within my family, and in my career. It’s not about adding tasks to a to-do list; it’s about consistently examining where I am in life and being honest with myself. I see being alive as a gift, and I try to honor that by challenging myself, whether that’s learning to ski, picking up polo, or setting personal goals and going after them.
During COVID, my family and I moved to Aspen, Colorado. It was one of the hardest times to build community, but I pushed myself to make new friends and find connection. Some of those friendships are still among the most meaningful in my life.
One of my favorite life hacks is attending events alone. It forces me to stretch out my hand, introduce myself, and connect with others. I truly believe self-esteem is like a muscle, you have to exercise it regularly. And today, more than ever, it’s something I prioritize and work to strengthen.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the founder and designer of Mrs Momma Bear, a fashion brand rooted in the belief that women deserve to feel powerful, sexy, and supported—without compromising on comfort. I grew up on a ranch in Texas, and while I’ve always loved getting my hands dirty, I also had an eye for beauty and an appreciation for thoughtful design. Mrs Momma Bear is where those worlds meet.
What makes this work so special to me is seeing how women light up when they put on something that fits them just right. I design with intention, making sure every piece not only looks good but feels good. Our signature double-knit fabric gives you stretch and structure, so you feel held but never restricted. Every piece is created with a woman’s real life in mind, from the cut to the fabric to the way it moves with you.
This season, I’m especially excited about our Garden Collection. It’s inspired by the wildflower fields I used to run through as a kid—an ode to nature, strength, and soft beauty. You’ll find clean silhouettes in earthy tones like Poppy, Birch, and Black Rose. It’s one of our most personal and polished collections to date.
At the end of the day, I just want to help women feel like their favorite version of themselves—grounded, confident, and ready to take on whatever the day brings. That’s what Mrs Momma Bear is all about.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Honestly? Sales experience. If you’ve never sold anything on commission or worked for tips, I highly recommend trying it in any form. Whether it’s retail, waiting tables, door-to-door sales, or cold calling, these roles develop a powerful range of skills: honesty, communication, courage, finesse, and integrity, just to name a few.
One of the most formative jobs I had was selling local TV ads on commission for Univision Channel 41 in San Antonio. I cold-called businesses all day. The most important lesson I learned was the value of honesty. Once I truly understood a business and felt they weren’t a great fit for what we offered, I told them that. Surprisingly, many of those people ended up referring me to others and when they were ready, they only wanted to work with me.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that I was prioritizing the relationship above the transaction, treating every client the way I’d want to be treated. That mindset has stayed with me. If you lead with integrity and relationships, it’s been my experience that you’ll build a business that’s not just successful, but sustainable and respected.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Anyone who knows me knows I’m an avid reader, so the most impactful book is usually the one I’ve just finished. Right now, that’s Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson. One of the biggest takeaways for me was how it normalizes the emotional roller coaster most entrepreneurs go through.
Most days, I’m making decisions and taking risks that others might categorize as “impossible.” But I know that if I want to change what’s available to women in the retail industry, I have to be bold enough to take those risks. They’re calculated, of course, but they’re still leaps most people wouldn’t take. I truly believe that’s what separates entrepreneurs: the willingness to defy the odds. Isaacson does a great job of capturing that energy, that relentlessness. As strange as it sounds, the book made me feel less alone in the emotional highs and lows of building something that challenges the status quo.
I also have to mention an old favorite that I’m currently reading with my son: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Teens. I read the original when it first came out, and now I’m re-reading both versions. One simple idea—“set aside quiet time every day”—has stuck with me for years, and I still swear by it. Sometimes, it’s the small stuff that shapes our mindset the most.
