Meet Sury Boa

We recently connected with Sury Boa and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sury, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

“I draw my resilience from belief—both in myself and in God. No matter how tough things get, I hold on to the faith that I’m not alone and that God is on my side. That belief gives me the strength to keep moving forward, even when the path is difficult.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I currently serve as the Manager at The Night Watch Childcare Center, where I’m responsible for ensuring the center runs smoothly and that all procedures are followed. But my role goes beyond daily operations—I’m deeply passionate about giving back to my community, and I’m fortunate that my position allows me to do just that.

One of the projects I’m currently working on, in collaboration with my boss, is offering English classes to individuals whose first language is not English. This initiative is especially meaningful to me because it addresses a real need in our community and creates opportunities for people to feel more confident and connected.

Another part of my work that I’m proud of is organizing and leading a special storytime focused on Hispanic heritage. Through this program, I aim to celebrate and preserve the Spanish language and cultural traditions, especially among young children. It’s important to me that kids not only learn about their roots but also feel proud of them.

Additionally, I’m currently enrolled in an apprenticeship program to become a certified teacher. I believe that my role is not just about managing a childcare center—it’s about making a difference. Whether I’m supporting families, teaching children, or leading cultural programs, everything I do is rooted in community and purpose. My work allows me to grow professionally while creating a positive impact, and that’s what makes it so special.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey so far, I’d say the three most impactful qualities have been resilience, communication, and a heart for service.

Resilience has helped me push through challenges, especially when balancing work, community projects, and my apprenticeship. There have been moments where things felt overwhelming, but staying focused on my purpose and reminding myself why I started has helped me keep going.

Communication has been key—not just in managing a childcare center, but in connecting with families, leading programs, and helping people from different backgrounds feel heard and supported. Learning how to listen actively and speak with intention makes a huge difference in any role.

Finally, having a heart for service has shaped everything I do. Whether it’s organizing Hispanic heritage storytime or helping with English classes, I believe that leading with kindness and a genuine desire to help others is what brings real fulfillment and impact.

For those just starting out, my advice is: Stay open to learning—both from formal opportunities and from the people around you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or mentorship, and most importantly, stay connected to your purpose. When you know why you’re doing what you’re doing, it’s easier to grow through the hard moments and keep moving forward.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I like to take a step back and reconnect with myself. One of the things that helps me most is sitting near my plants and painting. Being surrounded by nature, even in small ways, brings me peace. The act of painting helps me slow down, breathe, and express what I’m feeling without needing words.

My advice to others is to find your safe space—somewhere that helps you feel calm and centered. It doesn’t have to be quiet; for some people, it might be a busy coffee shop, a favorite park, or a quiet corner at home. What matters most is recognizing how that space makes you feel. Does it help you stop overthinking? Does it give you peace or clarity?

Once you’ve found that place or activity, try to make it accessible—something you can turn to anytime you need it. Whether it’s painting, journaling, walking, or simply sitting in silence, give yourself permission to pause and recharge. That’s not weakness—it’s how we stay strong.
